College Affordability Forum On February 9th, 2015 a public forum on college affordability was hosted by Congressmen Mike Thompson at Napa Valley College. In attendance, were President Dr. Ronald Kraft whom provided a welcome. Patti Morgan, Dean of Financial Aid provided information about NVC Financial Aid and Cal Grants. Howard Willis, Director of SSS TRiO spoke about TRiO programs and encourage students to seek out TRiO programs or similar student service programs that can assist students. Napa Valley College February 2015 Celebrating the academic achievements of receiving a 4.0 GPA for the Spring 2014 and/or Fall 2014 semester! 8

Twenty-two SSS students achieved a 4.0 GPA in the Fall 2014 semester and nineteen students achieved a 4.0 GPA in the Spring 2014. Fourteen of these students attended the SSS TRiO 4.0 GPA Celebration on Friday, February 20th. Students and their families and/or friends joined in their celebration. In attendance, was also the NVC Board of Trustees members; Mary Ann Mancuso and Kyle Iverson. 70 people were in attendance. 9

The SSS TRiO 4.0 GPA Celebration consisted of the SSS TRiO staff explaining the meaning of achieving a 4.0 GPA at a community college and the commitment and sacrifices students make in order to achieve this high standard of academics. It was a potluck dinner and each student was then given a certificate of achievement along with a SSS TRiO polo shirt. Each student was encouraged to share a few words about what a 4.0 GPA means to them and their gratitude's. SSS TRiO brings families and friends together to recognize the incredible academic accomplishments of SSS TRiO students. Napa Valley College March 2015 10

Discover UC Davis 2015 Bus Trip Friday, February 27th The Counseling 97 class along with Napa Valley College Students attended the Discover UC Davis Academic trip on Friday, February 27th. Discover UC Davis 2015 is an annual event which includes a welcome, Major Careers Presentation, Student Panel, Financial Aid Presentation, Transfer Tips, Lunch and Resource Fair. In addition, students had an opportunity to listen and speak to a panel of Health, Law, and Education Professionals. Transportation for this trip was sponsored by UC Davis and was coordinated by NVC Transfer Center. Students enjoyed the trip and the experience of visiting a 4-year institution. 12

Tutoring sessions will be held in the SSS TRiO Conference Room. SparkPoint from American Canyon is a family resource agency that will be providing FREE Tax Assistance and Filing at NVC. Free Tax Clinics at Napa Valley College are held on Thursdays for walk-ins in Building 1300, Room 1332. *This free service is available to households with a 2014 income of $53,000 or less. You must bring the following items with you: Photo ID for each person on your tax return Social Security Card or ITIN for each person on your tax return W-2s from all jobs held in 2014 All 1099s, 1098s, and any other tax forms Savings and Checking Account and routing numbers for direct deposit Last Year s Tax Return Child Care Provider Information Landlord s Name, address, and phone number for CA Renter s Credit Your household s health coverage information (1095-A if bought through Covered CA) 22
