You wanted to hear more about the patient perspective from stroke survivors. This year, please welcome Teri Ackerson, RN. Ms. Ackerson has worked in ICU and NICU units and served as palliative care coordinator, and stroke care coordinator at Centerpoint Medical Center, and stroke/ STEMI program manager at Liberty Hospital. She has recently returned to intensive care at St. Luke s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. A year ago last Memorial Day, Teri Ackerson finished a 6-mile run in preparation for her next marathon. She went home for a shower, and then visited a Starbucks for a latte with her teenage son. Upon driving away, the grip she had on her coffee cup loosened, and her left arm suddenly went numb. She felt the left side of her face droop and she couldn t speak. Teri was having a stroke. In fact, Teri Ackerson knew from her experience as a nurse and stroke coordinator what was happening. Join us as Teri relates her experience as a health care professional who experienced stroke firsthand. Teri will be discussing trends in stroke in the young and in the female population, as well as revealing the impact with those who suffer communication issues as a result of stroke.
