NEWS RELEASE Karen Galbo Phone: 203.338.6113 Fax: 203.338.6116 karen.galbo@peoples.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 29, 2014 PEOPLE S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER $700,000 IN GRANTS TO NORTHEASTERN NONPROFITS BRIDGEPORT, CT The People s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People s United Bank, announced today that it awarded $741,000 during its third grant cycle of 2014 to nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. One hundred sixteen organizations received funding in support of activities that ranged from basic needs and transitional housing services, to education, workforce development, and life skills training programs. The funding was distributed within the foundation s three areas of focus, with 43 percent allocated to youth development, 34 percent to community development, and 23 percent to affordable housing initiatives. Recipients included Billings Forge Community Works and New Beginnings Family Academy in Connecticut, Debt Counseling Corporation and The Food Bank for Westchester in New York, Cradles to Crayons and Springfield Rescue Mission in Massachusetts, Boys and Girls Club of Rutland and West River Habitat for Humanity in Vermont, Family Promise of Greater Nashua and The Way Home in New Hampshire, and Challenging Learning Center and Mainestream Finance in Maine. Our grant recipients continue to deliver outstanding programs to the individuals they serve, said Vincent Santilli, Executive Director of the foundation. We are proud to support their efforts and grateful for the opportunity to witness extraordinary outcomes in our communities as a result of our partnerships. For a detailed list of organizations that People s United Community Foundation supported during this year s third grant cycle, please refer to the chart provided or visit www.pucf.org. Established in 2007, People s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People s United Bank serves. People s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic selfsufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing. ###
