IMPACT ENTREPRENEURS 2016-17 REPORT
Impact Entrepreneurs unleashes the promise of business for social impact. We do this by educating, training, and advising social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs of all ages, across sectors, and worldwide, with a vision of creating a more just world where all life flourishes. A program of Portland State University's (PSU) School of Business, Impact Entrepreneurs has now merged with PSU's Business Outreach Program and other entrepreneurial offerings to form a new Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This report charts our progress over the past academic year and points towards a future of integrated initiatives and shared partnerships that support PSU's mission to "Let Knowledge Serve the City." 2016-17 Fundraising: in the past academic year, Impact Entrepreneurs wrote or co-wrote $521,000 in successful sponsorships, grants, and contracts awarded to programs throughout Portland State University. Without this support and in-kind sponsorships from community partners, our work would not be possible. Thank you!

Training and Incubation Partnerships In 2017, Impact Entrepreneurs redesigned and relaunched the Social Innovation Incubator. Now delivered in partnership with PSU's Business Outreach Program, the incubator offers expert technical assistance to PSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff, with priority admission for women, minority, and low-income clients. Offering lifelong support for social entrepreneurs from the PSU community, the reimagined incubator offers another pathway for continued engagement after graduation. Training programs focus on high school teachers and students, helping students graduate and preparing them for success in higher education. A yearly workshop for high school teachers on business education best practices is funded by the Oregon Department of Education. PSU's Invention Bootcamp, funded by The Lemelson Foundation and delivered in partnership with PSU's Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, is an intensive summer program for high school students to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship by creating their own inventions.

Social Innovation Certificate This primarily-online program enrolls undergraduate students, graduate students, and community members in the same courses as they each create and refine their own idea for a new social venture, whether a business, nonprofit, or internal program. This year, every piece of content in the certificate was reviewed for diversity and representation, all courses exceeded the Quality Matters rubric for accessibility, and a consultant provided recommendations on effective inclusion and representation for the LGBTQ+ community. 2016-17 Academic Year 28 graduate students Since 2014 91 graduate students 71 12 undergrads community members 155 55 undergrads community members 111 students 6 program graduates 301 students 25 program graduates
Graduate Spotlight Juliana Essen Chief Impact Officer National Peace Corps Association National Peace Corps Institute Designed in the Social Innovation Certificate, the Institute is a new initiative of the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), a 501(c)(3) mobilizing over 225,000 individuals and more than 165 affiliate groups to champion lifelong commitment to Peace Corps ideals. The Institute advances NPCA s mission by building the Peace Corps community s capacity to create positive social change through research, training, and impact assessment. Without Impact Entrepreneurs' certificate program, there would be no National Peace Corps Institute. I ve had many promising social impact ideas that never made it off the page, or that faltered at the first obstacle. But the certificate courses pushed me out into the real world, where I had to talk to actual people about what they actually need a pivotal breakthrough. The high-quality business plan for the Institute that I developed as my final project helped me secure a position as NPCA s new Chief Impact Officer. In this position, I can ensure that the Institute lives up to its full impact potential. Juliana Essen CERTIFICATE 13

Attending the training, visiting great places and being awarded a certificate is not enough. Bringing the learning back to the teams is most important as we build and nurture a new generation of leaders within Mercy Corps." 2017 cohort participant
