Houston Public Schools Houston, MO 65483 Minutes of the Board of Education in regular session June 14, 2016 Quorum A regular meeting of the Board of Education Houston R-I School District of Texas County, Missouri was convened at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sam Kelley, Curtis Hubbs, Leon Slape, Russell Gaither, Stacie Ely, Jennifer Scheets, and Jo Holland. Closed Session A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Russell Gaither to go into closed session pursuant to RsMO 610.021, subsections 3 and 13. Motion carried 7-0. Sam Kelley yea, Curtis Hubbs yea, Leon Slape yea, Russell Gaither yea, Stacie Ely yea, Jennifer Scheets yea, and Jo Holland Open Session began at 6:30 p.m. Special Recognition Pledge of Allegiance Correspondence MSTA/MNEA Approve Agenda Patron Comments Old Business Fine Arts Building Mr. Dill led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Dill spoke to the Board regarding correspondence from Mr. John Impey, which was included in the Board packet. Mr. Dill let the Board know that the District received ten phone calls regarding demolition of the Fine Arts building. A motion was made by Leon Slape and seconded by Sam Kelley to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0. The Community Coordinating Committee spoke regarding the Fine Arts Building. Karen Cavanaugh spoke for the committee. Mr. John Impey spoke regarding the Fine Arts Building. Demolition Bids MSBA Policy Update 2016A A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Leon Slape to accept the demolition bid from Gator Industrial LLC, from Joplin Mo for demolition of the Fine Arts Building at $90,000.00. Motion carried 7-0. Sam Kelley yea, Curtis Hubbs yea, Russell Gaither yea, Jennifer Scheets yea, Stacie Ely yea, Leon Slape yea, and Jo Holland A motion was made by Curtis Hubbs and seconded by Sam Kelly to approve the amended MSBA Policy Update 2016A. Motion carried 7-0. A motion was made by Curtis Hubbs and seconded by Sam Kelley to amend the MSBA Policy Update GB, page 6, to reflect the current daily sub pay. Regular Substitute pay rate of $70 for a full day and

New Business Consent Agenda Minutes $35 for a half day. Motion carried 7-0. A motion was made by Russell Gaither and seconded by Jennifer Scheets to approve the consent agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0. Approved minutes from the May 10, 2016 Board Meeting. Claims for Payment Claims approved for payment were checks 14349-14542. Transfers Band Uniforms MSBA Bright Futures Meal Prices Building Handbooks Program Evaluations Mr. Roy spoke to the Board regarding the need, and his plan, for band uniforms. This is a discussion item. No action will be required at this time. Band student, Senior Ashton Whitman, modeled a new uniform for the Board to see. A motion was made by Leon Slape and seconded by Jennifer Scheets to approve enrolling the District in the Bright Futures initiative, with a one-time fee of $2,500.00. Motion carried 7-0. A motion was made by Leon Slape and seconded by Stacie Ely to approve meal prices for the 2016-17 school year as follows: Students: Breakfast- $1.35 and Lunch- $1.90; Adult: Breakfast- $1.40 and Lunch- $2.00. Motion carried 7-0. Mr. Dill provided copies of each buildings handbooks for the 2016-17 school year for Board review. A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Curtis Hubbs to approve the Assessment program evaluation as presented by Pat Oakley. Motion carried 7-0. A motion was made by Leon Slape and seconded by Stacie Ely to approve the Guidance Program evaluation as presented by building counselors. Motion carried 7-0. A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Jennifer Scheets to approve the Discipline program evaluation as presented by building principals. Motion carried 7-0. Board Reports Patron Comments Mr. Dill updated the Board regarding ongoing activities on the school campus. Mr. Vandivort spoke to the Board regarding the Fine Arts Building. Karen Cavanaugh spoke to the Board regarding the Fine Arts Building. Gary Gentry spoke to the Board and Mr. Dill, he thanked Mr. Dill for the fine job he had done since he has been with the district.

Tom Dunn spoke to the Board and Mr. Dill, he thanked Mr. Dill for his service since he has been with the district. Kathy Hutcheson also thanked Mr. Dill for all he has done for the district. Jim Cavanaugh spoke to the Board regarding the Fine Arts Building. Next Board Meeting Adjournment A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Leon Slape to have a special meeting of the board on June 28, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office and the next regular board meeting on July 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the High School Library Media Center. A motion was made by Leon Slape and seconded by Stacie Ely to employ Sadie Ashworth as Title I Paraprofessional for the 2016-17 school year. A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Jennifer Scheets to employ Wayne Sword as bus maintenance for the 2016-17 school year. A motion was made by Sam Kelley and seconded by Leon Slape to employ Mary Houselog as bus driver for the 2016-17 school year. Motion carried 7-0. Mr. Roehrs will be charged $500.00 for breaking his contract after the last day of school. Motion carried 7-0.
