Welcome to FALL FLEX 2011! College of the Desert Fall Flex Welcome back to College of the Desert for a new semester of challenging and stimulating courses, programs, and students. I trust your summer activities brought you renewed inspiration and enthusiasm that you can share in your classroom. You will receive an update shortly on the progress achieved by our summer study sessions which were designed to lay down a framework for the budget-related decisions that we must make this year for fiscal year 2012-2013. Numerous people from all facets of the college participated voluntarily in discussions and planning to develop a strategy for the coming months. I always appreciate the dedication of our faculty and staff and the work that was accomplished this summer was particularly impressive. I challenge you to take your enthusiasm for your students and carry that through the year and remember they are the reason we are here. The success of College of the Desert is measured by the success of our students and you, our employees, hold the outcome in your hands. Best wishes for another great year. Jerry R. Patton President On behalf of the Faculty Development Committee (FDC) let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the start of another great year at College of the Desert. This year s fall flex would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our outgoing FDC Chair Anthony Tesch and Secretary Lynda Scott. They have ably served the FDC and their presence at our monthly meetings will be greatly missed. I wish them luck with their new responsibilities. I also hope that you enjoy the wonderful flex program that they have put together. I know it is easy to focus on the downside in this time of financial crisis but COD has a wonderful, passionate, innovative faculty and that is the biggest upside that I can think of and flex is our time to show it off! August 24, 25, & 26, 2011 Have a wonderful semester, Ed Reed Chair, Faculty Development Committee
