NARRAGANSETT LIGHTHOUSE CRUISE On Wednesday, August 16 th at 9:00 a.m. we will be leaving by motorcoach from the side parking lot of St. Mary s Church in Foxborough and heading down to Rhode Island. Our first stop will be the Quonset Point Officer s Club for a delicious, full course luncheon. Crafters Corner 10:15 a.m. CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP Starting in June, the Foxborough Council on Aging and Human Services will host a monthly support group for caregivers of someone with dementia. This group will be meeting at the senior center on the fourth Monday of each month from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. and will be facilitated by Kristin Heuwold. Kristin has been trained by the Alzheimer s Association as a support group leader. Meetings can be more of an educational nature or provide members with a forum to discuss current concerns and resources for support. This will vary from month to month as the needs of the group change. The first meeting will be on Monday, June 26 th. If you are interested in attending, please sign up in advance by calling the senior center at 508-543-1234. LAUGHTER WORKSHOP Have you ever felt better after having a good laugh? Join us at the senior center for our new 5-week Laughter Workshop, led by David Lesky Lescoe, Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor. This program is free and it will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on the following Thursdays: July 6 & 13, and August 3, 10 & 17. Laughter improves your mood! It causes the release of endorphins, which stimulate feelings of caring and forgiveness as well as acting as a natural painkiller. It has been scientifically proven that laughter has beneficial health effects. It boosts the immune system by increasing levels of anti-viral and anti-infection cells, and it provides an excellent cardio and mid-body workout. Each session starts with a gentle warm-up, then laughter is simulated as a physical exercise. QI GONG AND MEDITATION/RELAXATION CLASSES Join us this summer as we learn the ancient healing practice of Qigong. Qigong and Meditation/Relaxation Classes will be held at the senior center from 5 to 6 p.m. on the following Wednesday afternoons: July 12 & 19 and August 9, 16 & 30. Many of us are so busy with our daily routines that we forget to take some time out for ourselves. This is your chance! Qigong is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that work with the meridian energy pathways of the body to enhance the flow of energy (Qi). The practice of Qigong typically involves moving meditation, slow flowing movements, deep rhythmic breathing and a calm state of mind. These classes will be led by instructor Jeanne Donnelly who has been teaching various forms of exercise for close to 40 years. There is a $2 charge for each class. FENWAY PARK TOUR AND LUNCHEON OUTING Join us on Thursday, July 13 th when we ll be off to visit Fenway Park, America s Most Beloved Park and home of the Boston Red Sox. We ll be leaving Foxborough by motorcoach from the side parking lot of St. Mary s Church at 8:30 a.m. Our group will have a special, guided tour of Fenway Park and our knowledgeable guide will provide a wonderful narrative of Fenway s history and present day upgrades and amenities. After the tour, we will enjoy a delicious luncheon at the No Name Restaurant where a variety of fresh fish, beef and chicken is available off the menu. Following lunch we will make a stop at historic Quincy Market where many shopping and sightseeing opportunities await. The cost for this day in Boston is $81 and includes all gratuities. MEDITATION AND RELAXATION CLASSES There are times when life can be a little hectic, and at those moments we may long for a little quiet time to clear our minds and decompress. Starting in June, the senior center will be offering weekly Meditation and Relaxation classes on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. These classes will be led by Chair Yoga instructor Michelle Lawlor. The goal of meditation is to go beyond the mind and experience our essential nature which is described as peace, happiness and bliss. Meditation is about training your brain to bring your thoughts and
feelings into awareness. It s about examining who you are and it teaches you to appreciate every moment for what it is. Just as physical exercise strengthens your body, meditation tones and strengthens the mind. So come join us as we get our minds into shape. HISTORY LECTURE WITH PAOLO DIGREGORIO Paolo DiGregorio, the Artifactual Scholar and our favorite history teacher, will be at the senior center on Thursdays, July 6 & 13 at 1:00 p.m. Paolo is an historian, archeologist and educator with a passion for telling stories and bringing history to life. In July, Paolo will be speaking on China and Japan from the 19 th to early 20 th century. The topic of the July 6 th program is China and the West the Decline of the Celestial Empire, 1830 to 1911. MEN S LUNCHEON Join us for our Men s Luncheon on Thursday, June 29 th at 12:00 noon. Following lunch, our program will be Human Services Fun and Games with our Social Worker Pam McGuire. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the services available through our Human Services department. We will be serving some delicious deli sandwiches, chips and cookies. MEDICAL INFORMATION AND SERVICES S.H.I.N.E You can obtain health insurance information and assistance through the SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Everyone) Program. The SHINE program provides free and confidential health insurance information counseling and assistance to Massachusetts residents who are or will be eligible for Medicare and their families. A SHINE counselor will be available at the senior center to meet with you individually on Tuesday, July 12 th and 20 th. REGULARLY SCHEDULED EXERCISE CLASSES It s always time to join us at the senior center for some or all of our weekly exercise programs. We have Chair Yoga classes that meet every Monday morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by Tai Chi classes at 10:30 a.m. Every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. we hold Stretch and Balance classes, followed by some Latin dancing in our Zumba Gold class at 9:45 a.m. Strength Training classes are scheduled for Wednesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Senior Fitness classes are held every Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. There is a $2 charge for each class. No more excuses! Come and get moving with us. ZUMBA GOLD CLASSES It s time to start getting ourselves moving. Come and learn some Latin dance moves with us and we ll have some fun getting in shape. Zumba is an exercise program inspired by Latin dance as it combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to work out, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Zumba Gold classes focus on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance.
