Never think you need to apologize for asking someone to give to a worthy objective, any more than as though you were giving him an opportunity to participate in high-grade investment. The duty of giving is as much his as the duty of asking yours. Whether or not he should give to that particular enterprise, and if so, how much, it is for him alone to decide. - John D. Rockefeller 3
OSU Extension is indeed a worthy objective & a high-grade investment opportunity. 4
To date, $22,750,000 are invested in endowed funds benefiting state-wide programs & 80 counties. Therefore, it s safe to say that Extension s philanthropic value is recognized. 5
Note, however, that: Current investments, on average, don t generate enough to fully fund a position or program Eight (8) counties lack an OSU endowment fund There is significant untapped capacity statewide 6
Realities Economic Fluctuations + Changes in Political Priorities + Period of Unprecedented Wealth Transfer + Growing Need for Reliable, High Quality Services = 7
Time to Establish & Pursue a New Goal 8
In good times and bad, we know that people give because you meet needs, not because you have needs. - Kay Sprinkel Grace Author & Philanthropy Consultant 9
Maximize opportunities to educate & converse with individuals, families, corporations & foundations on how giving to Extension through the OSU Foundation can align with & enhance their philanthropic objectives. 10
Extension meets needs that a lot of people care about. Goal: Let them know how they can make an impact Today & In Perpetuity 11
I have tried raising money by asking for it, and by not asking for it. I always got more by asking for it. - Millard Fuller Founder, Habitat for Humanity 12
