Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support Provider Course September 12-13, 2016 Medical Education & Research Institute 44 S. Cleveland St. Memphis, Tennessee Course Description PFCCS is a major resource for those interested in learning how to recognize critical illnesses and initiate care for the critically ill pediatric patient. It will also serve as a valuable education tool for those entering the field of pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric critical care, and disaster response medicine. Target Audience This program is directed toward physicians, hospitalists, advanced nurses, transport teams, physician assistants, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in pediatric critical care and emergency medicine. Purpose To prepare physicians, physician-assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses for the first 24 hours of pediatric critical care until transferred or appropriate critical care consultation is obtained. To prepare non-intensivists to manage the acute deterioration of critically ill pediatric patients. To prepare pediatric, emergency medicine, and surgical house staff for pediatric critical care medicine. Objectives - Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill or injured infant or child. select appropriate diagnostic tests. respond to significant changes in the unstable pediatric patient. recognize and initiate management of acute, life-threatening conditions. determine the need for expert consultation and/or patient transfer and the optimal methodology accomplishing patient transfer.
