We chose a Day of the Dead painting since that is very popular in the desert southwest. Creative Juice charges $35 for the wine, instruction, and a wine glass. They are generous enough to give us $10 from all who register for that session. Below you will see some of our finished products. What an artistic group! Fraternity News Fall Installations included Beta Theta (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) and Nu Gamma (Eastern Carolina University). This spring Case Western Reserve (Cleveland, OH) and Georgia College and State University (Milledgeville, GA) will be added as provisional chapters. The 2018 International Convention will be held on June 28-30, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas! All of the fun and festivities will be at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter, 101 Bowie Street. Click here to learn about the hotel. 2018 Packathon What did Linda Coté do 252 times on Sunday, January 7? She put a cup of soy and a cup of rice into a funnel. Jim Coté (Monica s husband) placed 252 bags at the bottom of the funnel to catch the soy and rice. Monica put a vitamin packet to each bag. Beans and dried veggies were then added. Pat Vreeland helped weigh the bags 389 grams each before they were sealed, labeled and placed on a grid by Linda s friend Sandy. When 36 bags had been placed on the grid, they were put in a box. Linda Coté AB, Patricia O Connor Vreeland EI, and Monica Aemisegger-Coté AB (not pictured: AJ Perrin AG) At another table, AJ Perrin was part of another team doing the same thing. This was all part of the St. Paul s United Methodist Church Pack-a-thon. Each bag will make up to 6 meals so the 252 bags which were packed at our table will provide 1512 meals. All totaled over 50,000 meals (that s over 1380 boxes) were packed by 400 volunteers in a little over an hour. The meals were later taken to the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army. It took a horse trailer to deliver the boxes to Casa Maria! Want to join in the fun next January as the St. Paul s community helps provide food for Tucson? Want to help support Alpha Gamma Delta s philanthropic mission of Fighting Hunger? Watch for information in December. This is a fun, easy way for us to help provide food for those in our community who deal with food insecurity. Pat Vreeland 5
Meals on Wheels Alpha Gamma Delta became partners with Meals on Wheels America this summer as a part of shifting our philanthropic focus to fighting hunger. By volunteering with Meals on Wheels America, you are not only helping your local community, but you're also spreading word that Alpha Gams fight hunger. To find your local Meals on Wheels program and sign up to volunteer, click here. Each program offers various levels of commitment and can accommodate flexible schedules. Collecting small holiday gifts for Meals on Wheels recipients is another way to serve. Many seniors live alone and may not have family nearby. Ideas for gifts include lap robes, lip balm, mittens, lotions, inexpensive puzzle books (available at most dollar stores) or other thoughtful items. Please check with your local Meals on Wheels agency prior to purchasing items to learn how you can help support their mission. If you have questions about our partnership with Meals on Wheels America or need additional information related to our philanthropic efforts, email philanthropy@alphagammadelta.org.
