COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES REPORT: Please send all Community Activity Reports to the Community Activity Chairman Rick Martin (rickmartin412@aol.com), 412 Nilsen Rd NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Only 1 report per Post and per Auxiliary will be accepted and is due the eight of each month. Please use the form attached with these General Orders to report your activities. Page 2 of 7

6. POST UNPAID LISTS: Incoming Commander in Chief BJ Lawrence is asking each Post to print out their unpaid member list and work on getting the members to renew their membership before the Online Membership System shuts down at 1830 hours (6:30 pm) on Saturday June 30, 2018. We know this is short notice but do your best to finish this year strong. There are a lot of Posts who need less than 10 members to be 100%. Reminder that if your Post achieves 100% or more your Post does not have to pay the 2018 Post Assessment! 7. 2018-2019 FLYING SQUADRON: The 2018 Flying Squadron will be July 14, 2018 at VFW Post 9127 Beaverdale Post, 4029 Urbandale Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310 beginning at 10 am. Uniform will be business casual with VFW Cap, (No T-Shirts, Shorts, Sandals, or Flipflops). All Department Chairmen and Council Members are required to attend this meeting as there will be introductions of all chairmen and new Council members. 8. QUARTERMASTER BOND: THE RATE UP TO AND INCLUDING $25,000 IS $6.00 PER THOUSAND. THE RATE FOR $26,000 AND UP IS $5.00 PER THOUSAND. THE RATE FOR $251,000 AND UP IS $2.00 PER THOUSAND. The application for the Quartermaster Surety Bond will be sent out on July 2, 2018 along with a Post bonding information sheet for those not bonding with Department. The Bond is due before September 1, 2018. All bonds will expire on August 31, 2018. 9. IRS ALERT FOR POSTS WITH NEW QUARTERMASTERS: A reminder that you must file Form 8822-B within 60 days after the new Quartermaster taking office (July 1, 2018) or if your Post address changes. I have attached a copy of the form and the instructions with these General Orders. 10. STATE CONVENTION RAFFLE WINNERS: The winners of the Convention raffle were: $1,000 prize VFW Post 2440 Independence, $500 prize Steve Maxwell from Atlantic, Iowa, $100 prize Nick Dingeman, from Des Moines, Iowa, $100 prize Dave Harn from Sheldon, Iowa, and $100 prize Daniel Loewen from Baldwin, Iowa. Congratulations to all of you and thank you everyone who purchased a ticket for supporting the VFW Department of Iowa fundraiser. 11. STATE COMMANDER CAROL WHITMORE S MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM BOOK: State Commander Whitmore s Program book is now available. We will send it in a separate email and it will also be available on the VFW Iowa website at www.vfwiowa.org. 12. OFFICERS, ELECTED AND APPOINTED: Section 216 (c) - Post Officers, elected and appointed shall submit proof of eligibility for files to the Post Adjutant following their election or appointment and prior to their installation. Such proof of eligibility records shall be open to the Post Commander, Post Adjutant and Post Quartermaster. Post Officers, elected and appointed, shall not be installed or assume the duties of their office until such proof of eligibility is in the files of the Post Adjutant. It is the responsibility of the elected and appointed Officer to obtain and submit this proof of eligibility. Section 414 (c) - District Officers, elected and appointed, shall submit proof of eligibility to the District Adjutant. Additionally, District Commanders, District Senior Vice Commanders and District Junior Vice Commanders shall submit proof of eligibility to the Department Adjutant. Page 3 of 7

13. 119 th NATIONAL CONVENTION: The Veterans of Foreign Wars 119 th National Convention will be held in Kansas City, Missouri on July 21-25, 2018. Housing and registration is now open. Please go to www.vfw.org, click on News & Publications and scroll to the bottom and click on Events, click on National Convention. There you will find all the information on this year s National Convention as well as a link to reserve your hotel room. Let s have a large turnout for Iowa as this Convention is not that far away. 14. REGISTRATION - VFW NATIONAL CONVENTION: In accordance with the requirements of Section 222 of the National Bylaws, which mandates each Post to register at least one delegate to the V.F.W. National Convention. Register a Delegate now for $25.00. Do not mail the forms to the Department; it should be mailed to the address on the form or electronically on the VFW National website Online Membership System (OMS). 15. FALL POW-WOW: The Fall Pow-Wow will be Oct. 27 28, 2018 at the Ramada Des Moines Airport, 1810 Army Post Rd, Des Moines, IA 50315. There are rooms available at members cost for Friday night Oct. 26 th. The room rate is $98.99 plus tax and the deadline to make reservations is Sept. 26, 2018. Members may call the hotel at 515-287-6464 to make reservations; be sure to tell them you are with the VFW Fall Pow-Wow to get the discounted room rate. 16. 17. 2018-2019 VOD & PATRIOT S PEN THEMES: The 2018-2019 themes are: Voice of Democracy Theme: Why My Vote Matters Patriot s Pen Theme: Why I Honor the American Flag 18. BIG TEN CONFERENCE REGISTRATION: The 2018 Big Ten Conference will be Oct. 19-21, 2018 at the Hilton St. Louis Airport, 1033 Natural Bridge Rd, St. Louis, MO 63134. The room rates are $89 plus tax. You may call 314-426-5500 to make reservations. Registration fee is $115.00 until Oct. 1, 2018. Late Registration is $125.00 each. 19. IOWA STATE FAIR BOOTH: The VFW will be hosting a booth in the Varied Industries building during the Iowa State Fair. This year the fair will run from Thursday, August 9, 2018 thru Sunday, August 19, 2018. We are asking Posts or individuals to donate to this great cause. For the posts or auxiliaries willing to donate, please send your checks to Department of Iowa Attn: Jerry Black, QM, 3601 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and help to defer the cost of the booth. We are the only Veterans Organization there and it is great public relations and lets everyone know that No One Does More For Veterans than the VFW. For those volunteering for a shift, you will be parking at the Fairgrounds post (Post 738) 2801 Dean Ave, free of charge and will be given an entrance ticket for the day you are working. Post 738 will provide transportation to the Fair and back until 7 pm. 20. VETERAN S DAY AT STATE FAIR: The Veteran s Day Parade at the Iowa State Fair will be Monday, August 13, 2018. Members participating in the parade will receive free Fair tickets. Discounted tickets may be purchased at Des Moines area stores (Fareway, Dahl s, and Hy-Vee). 21. VFW DEPARTMENT OF IOWA BRICK FUNDRAISER: Your engraved brick purchase can be a lasting memorial for a family member or friend, used to advertise your business name, or used to list your family s name as a donor. The bricks are $50 each and an order form will be sent with these General Orders. You may also find the form on the VFW Iowa website at www.vfwiowa.org. The bricks will be placed from the side walk to the flag poles and around the flag pole area in front of the VFW Iowa Headquarters building. 22. VFW DECAL LICENSE PLATE: You may now purchase the decals from the Department of Iowa Headquarters at a cost of $20 for 2 decals (one for front and one for rear license plate) and will then take the decals to your local county tag office and purchase the decal license plate. An order form for the decals can be found at www.vfwiowa.org. Information regarding this decal, including a photo and the contact information, is now available at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/vehicleregistration/vehicleregistration/decals. 23. INSPECTIONS: District Commanders your attention is directed to Section 517 of the Manual of Procedure, which states that each Post shall be inspected at least once during the year. Please make sure all the Posts in your District are inspected and report them in a timely manner rather that accumulating reports for 100% mailing. Please send completed Reports to State Inspector Travis Holden, 2307 Richland Dr., Des Moines, IA 50317. Please send white copy only. Page 5 of 7

24. DISPLAY U.S. FLAG ON JULY 27: The U.S. Flag should be flown on National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, July 27. Please encourage the observance of this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. 25. POST OFFICER VACANCIES: There are Posts that have incomplete Election Reports. They are 2 nd District: Post 9664 - Service Officer, 3 rd District: Post 733-2 YR Trustee, 5227-3 YR Trustee, 8 th District: Post 4704-1 YR Trustee & Post 6129-1 YR Trustee. 26. ELECTION REPORTS: Election Report filing was improved this year, Thank you. There are Posts that have not sent their Election Reports into the Department Headquarters as of this date, 3 rd District: Post 3974, 7 th District: Post 4119, 8 th District: Post 590 & 1973, 9 th District: Post 3902. Please get these sent in so that we may begin printing the Department Roster book. The Posts not having their Election Report into Department Headquarters by August 1, 2018 will not be printed in the Roster book and will be subject to suspension and possible revocation of their Post Charter. Department Headquarters must receive the Election Report in order to complete the Roster book for 2018-2019. 27. POST ASSESSMENT: The Post Assessment for 2018 will be $1.00 per member based on last year s Adjusted Membership total. Please wait to pay until the membership totals are adjusted for the Life Membership Amnesty at the beginning of September so that you have the correct total owed. If your Post achieved 100% in membership by June 30, 2018, your Post does not have to pay the Post assessment. This will be shown on the Status Report block as 100%. The deadline to pay your Post Assessment is Oct. 15, 2018. 28. GENERAL ORDERS EMAIL: General Orders will be sent via Email. Please send your e-mail address to Department Headquarters at vfwiowa@qwestoffice.net if you have not done so and wish to receive them. Post Commanders and Quartermasters please ensure we have your email address on file. If you do not have email, please contact your District Commander for a printed copy. 29.
