Terms and Conditions This document outlines the Terms and Conditions for the NBD Education Grant awarded by the National Bank of Dominica Ltd. to students of the Dominica State College (DSC) and University of the West Indies Open Campus Dominica (UWI Dominica). Please read this document carefully and ensure that you understand the conditions of the NBD Education Grant Programme. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. The goal of this Grant Programme is to help students get the quality education they need to be successful. Annually, the programme awards one student each, from the DSC and UWI Dominica, a grant of $2,500 ( the Grant ). An Applicant can be awarded the Grant only once in any four (4) year period. 1.2. The Applicant must meet the following criteria to be qualified for consideration for the Grant. The Applicant, 1.2.1. Has been granted, and has accepted an NBD Education Loan Facility after September 4th, 2013 and received disbursement of the NBD Education Loan Facility by the date of applying for the Grant; 1.2.2. Is not an employee, director, officer of NBD, DSC or UWI Dominica or its subsidiary, or a child or ward of any of the foregoing; 1.2.3. Is enrolled in a 2, 3 or 4-year academic programme at the DSC or UWI Dominica; 1.2.4. Is 35 years and under; 1.2.5. Is a citizen of the Commonwealth of Dominica; 1.2.6. Has received a certificate of completion from a secondary school or equivalent; 1.2.7. Has not successfully applied for the Grant within a four (4) year period; 1.2.8. Has complied with the deadlines and requirements detailed in 1.4 and 1.5 below; 1.2.9. Maintains his/her NBD Education Loan Facility in good standing from the date of application for the Grant, up to the time of acceptance of the Grant (if he is successful). 1.3. The Applicant must submit his/her applications to his/her school s Registrar s office by the deadline. 1.4. The deadline for satisfying all the eligibility criteria in Section 1.2 above, for the upcoming year is October 15th and the deadline for submission of the Grant application and all other accompanying documentation (detailed in Section 1.5 below) is October 31st of every year. NBD will seek to announce the successful Applicant by January 31st of the year following the year of application. 1.5. The Applicant shall submit the following to apply for the Grant: 1.5.1. A completed NBD Education Grant Application Form; 1.5.2. One (1) Personal letter of intent (maximum 1000 words) addressed to the NBD Education Grant Selection Committee explaining why you chose your academic programme, with particular emphasis on your professional aspirations for the future; 1.5.3. A certificate of completion from secondary school or equivalent; 1.5.4. If the Applicant has completed secondary school or equivalent less than two years prior to application, the Applicant must submit (a) a transcript of final grades; (b) a signed Letter of recommendation from a previous teacher which addresses the Applicant s ability to successfully undertake or continue the chosen programme of study. 1.5.5. If the Applicant has completed secondary school or equivalent more than two years prior to application, the Applicant must provide (a) evidence of relevant and sufficient work experience; (b) a signed Letter of Recommendation from a supervisor at your most recent employment which addresses the Applicant s ability to successfully undertake or continue the chosen programme of study 1.5.6. A transcript of grades, if the Applicant has at the time of applying, completed any aspect of the Programme of study. 1.6. If the application process is not completed by the deadline, the application may be at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee, subject to disqualification.
2. SELECTION PROCESS 2.1. NBD will form two (2) Selection Committees to evaluate Applicants from DSC and UWI Dominica, and to select the Successful Applicant, based on criteria developed at the particular Selection Committee s discretion. Each Selection Committee will be made up of one (1) representative from DSC or UWI Dominica (whichever is applicable), an NBD representative and one other independent person appointed by NBD; 2.2. Details of the selection process or reasons for awarding or not awarding the Grant will not be provided to the Applicants; 2.3. In case of any dispute or difference in respect of the selection of the successful students, the decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and binding on all concerned; 2.4. NBD will be responsible for the maintenance of records relating to the Grant. 3. ACCEPTING THE GRANT 3.1. The successful Applicant will receive a package containing a letter of offer and these terms and conditions. Students will be advised how to accept or reject the offer of the Grant, notwithstanding anything contained herein or in the Offer Letter. In the event that the successful Applicant is under 18 years of age, or a third party has provided a guarantee for his/her NBD Education Loan, such offer of the Grant can only be accepted by the successful Applicant together with his/her parent or guardian and the third party guarantor. 3.2. NBD reserves the right to withdraw the offer of the Grant if it is not accepted by the deadline stipulated in the Offer Letter. 3.3. The Grant shall be non-transferable, non-negotiable and no such request shall be entertained by NBD or the Selection Committee. 3.4. Notwithstanding anything contained in these Terms and Conditions or any related document, including the Offer Letter, the award of the Grant is conditioned on the successful Applicant maintaining an active enrollment status in the programme of study for one (1) year after being awarded the Grant or until the end of the programme of study, whichever is shorter. In the event that the successful Applicant does not remain enrolled in the programme of study for the above stated period after being awarded the Grant, the successful Applicant, his parent or guardian and third party guarantor (if applicable) consent to repay the full value of the Grant to NBD, or at NBD s option to apply the full value of the Grant to increase the liability under NBD s Education Loan. 4. PAYMENT OF GRANT FUNDS 4.1. The Grant will be paid within one month of acceptance of NBD s Offer, in the manner that NBD at its sole discretion shall determine. 4.2. Notwithstanding anything contained herein, or in any document including the Offer Letter, the payment of the Grant shall be applied in the following order: 4.2.1. Towards any outstanding education loan amount (principle and any accrued interest); 4.2.2. Towards tuition and other school and related fees, including reimbursement of paid tuition and fees; NBD reserves the right to pay any third parties directly; 4.2.3. To a nominated NBD bank account 4.3. The Successful Applicant is responsible for ascertaining whether there is any applicable tax payable on the Grant Sum and for making such payment to the relevant authority. 5. MISCELLANEOUS 5.1. In addition, and without limiting any other rights detailed in this document, NBD specifically reserves the following rights in respect to the NBD Grant Programme: 5.1.1. In the event that the NBD or the Selection Committee forms the opinion that information provided in support of an application for the Grant is false or misleading, the Applicant shall be disqualified from consideration for the Grant and shall repay NBD the amount of any Grant already awarded.
5.1.2. NBD reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, amend any of these Terms and Conditions (including extending the Grant application deadline) or cancel this Grant Programme at any time without individual notice to the Applicant, prospective applicants or any other person. 5.1.3. NBD in its absolute discretion may publicize, broadcast, or otherwise disclose a successful applicant s name, statements or any recording of their voice or image, and any information provided in or relating to the Grant application in advertising and promotional activities concerning the Grant Programme or generally. 5.1.4. NBD or the Selection Committee, in its sole discretion shall have the right to collect, use, and store information about any Applicant. 5.1.5. NBD or the Selection Committee shall have the right to obtain or disclose information about any Applicant including financial, employment, education history to any third party, if NBD or the Selection Committee determines, in its sole discretion that it is desirable to evaluate the application for the Grant. 5.1.6. The Applicant and his/her parent or guardian agrees to release and hold NBD, the Selection Committee, DSC or UWI Dominica and its Officers and agents, harmless from and against any claim, cause of action, loss or damage arising out of the Applicant s application in the Grant Programme or receipt, use or misuse of any Grant awarded. Without limiting the foregoing, NBD, the Selection Committee, DSC or UWI Dominica shall not be liable for any technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Grant Programme, including but not limited to the recording or processing of the applications. 5.2. By applying for the Grant, the Applicant accepts and agrees to all the Terms and Conditions contained herein (including any amendments thereto in accordance with Section 5.1.2). 5.3. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed and shall be construed in accordance with the Laws of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
