Nursing Program Information Packet A.A.S. Degree This Information Packet provides the prospective applicant with information about the Nursing Program admission process at MCCC and includes: Standard Point Score Worksheet Advanced Standing Point Score Worksheet The Information Packet is also available on the College s website at mc3.edu/degrees-and-programs/programs/health/nursing/petition-for-admission Any person is eligible to begin coursework at MCCC toward qualifying for admission to the Nursing Program and A.A.S. degree, however, admission to the Nursing Program is highly competitive and requires the student to meet Special Admission Requirements. Those seeking Standard admission must complete Sequence One Prerequisite courses while those seeking Advanced Standing admission must complete Sequence One and Two courses (see Catalog). Completion of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the Nursing Program. Nursing Information Sessions Nursing Information Sessions are the best way to learn about Nursing Program Special Admission Requirements, Sequence One Prerequisite courses, Advanced Standing opportunities, the admission process and the Nursing Program clinical experience. Nursing Information Sessions are approximately 1.5 hours in length. Arriving on time ensures receipt of all relevant information about MCCC s Nursing Program and the admission process. To reserve your space at the next Nursing Information session, register online or by calling: CENTRAL CAMPUS 215-641-6551 WEST CAMPUS 610-718-1906 Montgomery County Community College NURSING PROGRAM ADMISSIONS INFORMATION NOTE: THE NURSING PROGRAM ADMISSIONS PETITION PROCESS INCLUDES THE COMPLETION AND SUBMISSION OF INFORMATION AS REQUIRED IN THE ONLINE PETITION. MCCC offers interested applicants an Associate in Applied Science degree with a concentration in Nursing. Upon completion of MCCC s Nursing Program, the graduate is qualified to take the

National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) and seek licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse in any state in the nation. Changes in the curriculum and admission requirements for the Nursing Program may occur between the time the applicant applies to the College and the time of acceptance into the Nursing Program. Applicants must meet any new requirements for the class in which acceptance is offered. Standard Admission There has been a change in the Nursing Program curriculum (see MCCC Catalog). All students admitted Fall 2016 and beyond are required to take MAT 106, or a higher math course, and PSY 206. Students intending to pursue a degree in Nursing prior to Fall 2016 will not be required to take these additional courses (MAT 106 and PSY 206). Although not required, these courses are highly recommended and will help with your success in the Nursing Program, the NCLEX-RN exam, and your ability to transfer to a BSN program. All students petitioning to the Nursing Program, starting January 2017 and beyond, MUST complete the TEAS exam prior to petitioning for admission to the Nursing Program. Please refer to the following link for more information on the TEAS exam. (You may need to cut and past the link to your browser.) http://mc3.edu/degrees-and-programs/programs/health/assets/nursing/docs/teas-information-packet-formccc.pdf The Nursing Program offers acceptance to 40-60 applicants plus 10 Wait List Pending Acceptance applicants each semester based on student points and available space. Each semester is 14 weeks in length. The availability of seats in each of the three admission cycles is based on the availability of clinical learning opportunities provided to the College by area hospitals and other clinical sites. To be considered for Acceptance, all Nursing Program applicants must meet the Program s Special Admission Requirements and Sequence One Prerequisite courses (MCCC Catalog). The applicant can be enrolled in NUR 106 when submitting the Petition for Nursing Program Admission. All other Sequence One Prerequisite courses (BIO 131, ENG 101, PSY 101) must be completed when submitting the Petition for Nursing Program Admission. Effective Fall 2016 and beyond, students interested in pursuing a degree in Nursing must have completed BIO 131, ENG 101 and MAT 106 when submitting the Petition for Nursing Program Admission. To be eligible to petition to the Nursing Program beginning Summer 2017 petition cycle, opening January 2017, students must complete and score a minimum of 55% on the TEAS admission exam. As of Fall 2018, students interested in registering for NUR 106 must demonstrate one of the following: o TEAS Score of >75 TEAS and placement into BIO 131 through the biology placement test or BIO 131 in progress o OR o TEAS Score of >60 and B or better in BIO 131 OR BIO 140 Applicants seeking admission to the Nursing Program are required to submit a completed online Petition for Nursing Program Admission. Completed petitions are accepted only during the following time frames: Summer Admission Consideration January, the first Monday until the following third Friday Fall Admission Consideration May, the first Monday until the following third Friday

Spring Admission Consideration September, the first Tuesday until the following third Friday NOTE: If the deadline for submission of completed petitions falls on a day the College is closed, the petition will be accepted no later than 4:00pm on the next business day. Applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor before submitting the Petition for Nursing Program Admission to verify completion of all Special Admission Requirements and Sequence One Prerequisite courses. Students transferring credits into the College for Nursing Program - Students transferring credits to the College for the Nursing Program MUST submit their application and official transcripts before the following dates: Fall Admission - April 1 Spring Admission - August 1 Summer Admission - November 1 Acceptance to the Nursing Program is highly competitive. Nursing Program admission decisions are made based on a point system and ranking procedure. are awarded based on the student s place of permanent residence, number of required courses completed at MCCC, course grades, TEAS score and successful completion of courses on the first attempt (see attached Point Score Worksheet). A total point score is used in ranking those applicants submitting a completed Petition for Nursing Program Admission for a specific admission cycle. Applicants with the highest total point score in that admission cycle are ordered from highest to lowest and offered seats in the Nursing Program until all seats are filled. In the event that there are applicants with the same total point score, students who are Veterans will receive priority in compliance with PA DOE act 46-Higher Education Course Scheduling Preference for Veterans Act. In all other cases, applicants with the same total point score are ordered by a recalculated GPA from highest to lowest. NOTE: the recalculated GPA is determined solely on the grades earned in the completed non-clinical courses required by the Nursing Program s Sequence of Courses (MCCC Catalog). Transfer course grades, earned with a letter grade are included in the calculation. Transfer credit earned without a letter grade (AP, military evaluation, challenge examination) are not included in the recalculated GPA. All applicants who have filed a completed Petition for Nursing Program Admission will be notified of the decision (Acceptance; Wait List Pending Acceptance; Non-Acceptance) on or before the following dates: Summer Admission - March 15 Fall Admission June 21 Spring Admission - November 1 The names of those applicants who receive a Non-Acceptance notification for the Nursing Program are removed from consideration. An applicant must re-submit a Petition for Nursing Program Admission. Students may petition for admission to the Nursing Program a total of three (3) times. Students who petition three times and are not accepted are encouraged to meet with an Advisor for career counseling. Each admission cycle, 10 applicants are ranked according to the above procedure and offered Wait List Pending Acceptance status. Applicants who receive such notification are offered acceptance to the Nursing Program only if an accepted applicant declines her/his seat. Receipt of Wait List Pending Acceptance notification does not guarantee entrance in another admission cycle nor are applicants carried over to the next admission cycle. Should a seat not be available in the Nursing Program, applicants who have received Wait List Pending Acceptance notification must re-submit a Petition for Nursing Program Admission.

All applicants receiving Acceptance or Wait List Pending Acceptance notification are required to respond to the offer by the required date specified in the notification. Failure to respond by this date results in loss of acceptance or pending acceptance into the Nursing Program during that admission cycle. Requests to defer acceptance are not considered. Accepted applicants who decline the offered seat, or those who wish to defer admission, must re-submit a Petition for Nursing Program Admission. All applicants who receive Acceptance or Wait List Pending Acceptance notification and confirm their acceptance or pending acceptance are required to attend a mandatory Nursing Program Orientation held by the Director, Nursing Program. This three-hour orientation provides information about the Nursing Program and its pre-matriculation requirements. At this session, applicants in receipt of Acceptance letter order uniforms required by the Nursing Program and select a section of NUR 110 for enrollment. Failure to attend the Nursing Program Orientation results in loss of acceptance or pending acceptance to the Nursing Program during that admission cycle. Mandatory Nursing Program Orientations are generally scheduled as follow - please plan accordingly: Summer Admission - first or second week of March Fall Admission first or second week of July Spring Admission first or second week of November Advanced Standing Admission Applicants considered for Advanced Standing include transfer students, who left collegiate professional nursing programs or diploma nursing programs in good academic standing, and LPNs who have been working for at least six months. All Advanced Standing applicants must submit documents for credit evaluation and determination of placement in the Nursing Program courses (MCCC Catalog). Nursing coursework from other schools requires both transcript and course syllabi for credit evaluation. Advanced Standing applicants must submit a completed Petition for Nursing Program Admission, meet all Special Admission Requirements and have successfully completed the equivalent of all Sequences One and Two courses in the Nursing Program curriculum (MCCC Catalog). Advanced Standing applicants must also complete the TEAS exam, and obtain the minimum score or better as required. Placement for Advanced Standing applicants is on a space-available basis. The ranking process described above is used in offering acceptance to the Nursing Program. LPNs applying for Advanced Standing receive credit for NUR 110 after meeting the Nursing Program s Special Admission Requirements and completing all Sequence One and Two courses. Note: LPNs complete NUR 050 instead of NUR 106.
