Through a broad range of services we support members to provide opportunities that strengthen communities through good use of leisure time for the social, environmental, economic and physical wellbeing of all Australians. Underpinning everything we do is the understanding that leisure is a basic human right and one that impacts the quality of life for all Australians.

Today, PLA operates nationally through 5 Regions: New South Wales/ACT, Queensland, South Australia/NT, Tasmania/Victoria, and Western Australia. Members of PLA become part of a Region and are serviced through a Regional Council and a representative on the National Board. Regional Council s comprise of elected representatives from the PLA membership base within one of the five respective regions of PLA. Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT has a membership base in excess of 200 members, which includes corporate, individual, fellow, student, honorary life members and retired members. Members represent various sectors of the industry from private to not-for-profit, to local and state government employees. CORE ELEMENTS OF SUCCESS Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT core elements of success include its professional development seminar series, workshops, playground tours, annual Regional Conference, quarterly NSW/ACT Regional e-newsletter, and the NSW/ACT Regional Awards of Excellence. The Regional Council is regularly reviewing the activities of the Region and exploring avenues to better meet the needs of members. Selected sponsorship categories provide opportunities for companies and businesses to communicate with the industry via these avenues. Professional development seminar series This program responds to the needs and issues affecting our members and the wider industry sector and has become a highly successful program of professional development seminars aimed at delivering informative succinct sessions regarding issues pertinent to our sector. A minimum of 6 professional development seminars are scheduled annually. Additional extra events may be scheduled when opportunities arise through visits from international speakers and the like. Annual Regional conference Each year, the NSW/ACT runs a Regional conference. The location is moved around NSW/ACT in order to provide all members with easy access to this very successful event over a period of time. Each year up to 150 delegates attend the 2 day conference. Delegates use this conference to enhance their professional knowledge and expertise. Technical tours provide delegates with the opportunity to examine how other councils, facility providers, industry suppliers and manufacturers develop, support and manage facilities and programs within the host council area and are an invaluable part of the program. Please note NSW/ACT will not be holding a Regional Conference in 2015 as the PLA National Conference will take place in Sydney in October 2015.

NSW/ACT Seasonal quarterly e-newsletter The NSW/ACT Region produces a quarterly e-newsletter that is distributed to our membership base and posted on the PLA national website. This newsletter tracks trends within the industry, provides information on the region s events, and provides opportunities for other organisations to speak to industry professionals. Selected sponsorship categories provide opportunities for naming rights of this publication, and logo exposure. NSW/ACT Annual Regional Awards of Excellence PLA conducts a National Awards of Excellence program annually. The goal is to promote and recognise excellence in innovation, contribution and achievement within the industry. NSW/ACT submissions are judged by a regional panel and announced at our Regional Awards of Excellence event. NSW/ACT winners then automatically go on to compete at the National Awards of Excellence with the winners announced at the National Conference. There are sponsorship opportunities available for each Award category. Categories include:- Regional Organisational Awards Events Award Inclusive and Connected Communities Award Leisure Facilities Award Open Space Planning Award - strategic planning for open space Parks and Open Space Development Award - design and management Playspace Award Research Project Award (NEW) Sustainable Initiatives Award Use of Technology Award (NEW) Playground Tours PLA NSW/ACT, Kidsafe NSW and Fiona Robbé Landscape Architects have been delivering successful Playground Tours in the Sydney region since 2011.
