Local and Training Opportunities for Trainers This quarterly publication provides details of the local and training opportunities that are on offer to trainers across NHS Wales to assist them in meeting the requirements of their trainer role. The opportunities are listed in date order within each organisation. If you have any queries regarding any of the events advertised, please contact the relevant person listed for that event. Please note that although many of the events are organised by a particular LEP, many of them are open to all trainers in Wales. Please contact the relevant organiser for further details. IMPACT introduces the principles and practice of advanced acute medical care and related knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes and is endorsed by the Royal Medical Colleges of London, Edinburgh and Glasgow, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Society of Acute Medicine, the Resuscitation Council UK and the Intensive Care Society. The course enables trainees at advanced F2, CT1/2 level, to assess and treat acutely unwell patients and gives guidance on when to ask for help. For over a decade the IMPACT course has been preparing trainees to manage acute medical admissions. IMPACT has recently been revised and mapped to the CMT curriculum to provide a unique learning package which includes lectures, tutorials, skills-stations (central lines, Seldinger chest drain insertion and lumbar puncture) plus scenarios. The course is supported by a state of the art e-learning package including online simulation. Sharing Training Excellence in Medical Education (STEME) Conference 2018 The Wales Deanery, in conjunction with Cardiff University s School of Medicine and Swansea University Medical School, is holding this event for secondary care trainers in Wales. The Theme for Day 1 will be A Changing Landscape and the theme for Day 2 will be Technological Innovation and Healthcare Education. Trainers can register for just one or both days. The event will provide delegates with the latest information and newest developments in medical education and training as well as practical ideas to improve their educational practice. The programme will consist of stimulating keynote and plenary sessions, as well as a diverse range of practical professional development workshops covering key issues in medical education and training. In an increasingly highly pressured and competitive NHS and higher education environment how do we ensure that our educational practice is entirely fair and equitable? What are the barriers to a fair approach and how can we be sure that unconscious factors are not affecting our decisions regarding students and trainees, colleagues, staff and patients? This is one of the best opportunities for medical, dental, and veterinary educators to come together to share good practice and the latest innovations in healthcare education and for networking, academic collaboration, and professional development. The conference will feature keynote speakers, workshops and short presentations designed to support colleagues in advancing their work as medical, dental, and veterinary educators. Keynote speaker: Professor Srikant Sarangi, Director of the Danish Institute of Humanities and Medicine (DIHM) at Aalborg University.
