Executive Director s Report- Teresa Creech Literacy Programs: - DPIL Distribution Clover 178, 14% FM 391, 30% Rock Hill 527, 41% York 186, 15% Total = 1282 as of the end of April - Assisted with a Letter of Support for the York District for a Department of Education literacy grant for expansion of DPIL in their district. - Little Free Library #3 by the Rock Hill Rotary dedicated at the Museum of York County at their Earth Day celebration on April 30 th. Volunteers: -First Presbyterian of York and St. John s United Methodist women are cutting fleece blankets with our donated fleece from Springs Creative. Several individual students are also assisting. Karen Otteni s Lunch Bunch women of Lake Wylie are cutting blankets and filling Ziploc bags with books and a blanket for the NICU at Piedmont. Beth Shiloh Presbyterian women are sewing diaper bags. All materials were donated by Springs Creative. All should be completed in August. Grants & Funding: - Compiling a list of Grant opportunities and timeframes for throughout the year. If you see any opportunities, please contact Teresa. - Springs Close Foundation grant submitted for ROAR. Awarded $24,000. - JWL grant submitted for Reach Out and Read. JWL Awards Dinner on May 19th. $4,400 requested. - United Way grant submitted for $25,000 for Reach Out and Read. Site visit was on March 23 rd. Finance meeting held on April 13th. Grant approved, waiting to hear what the $ amount will be from UW. - $5,200 awarded to ELP by Rotary Club of RH as their Signature Charity at their Awards Dinner on May 12 th. Marketing: - ELP will be working with a Public Relations firm this summer. They are called Big Eyed Bird Creative from Columbia. We will work tell our story, rebrand our organization and create a new webpage. This service will cost $8,000. We will keep our name. Our first consultation will be on Thursday, May 26 th at 10:30am in Withers. Board Members: - New Board Members for 2016-17: Carol Lovelace York, Alice Williams Davis Rock Hill, Laura Mahoney Winthrop University, Debra Hess - Rock Hill, Windy Cole Museum of York County - A Board Member s Responsibilities document will be available in August at our first meeting. - A listing of all 2016 Board meeting dates/locations and a mini-retreat date will be emailed to the Board in June. - Board Members will choose a committee assignment identified in our most recent strategic plan. Committees: 1-Programming Assessment: what s working, should we delete or add? Renaming DPIL? Availability of funding for programs? 2-Public Relations: Social Media Marketing, new website, logo work, branding, storytelling, 3-Partnerships: Examples - ROR in the ED? add ROR Pediatric sites? ROR in the NICU (Wee Read at PMC)? laundromats, barbers, police departments, Palmetto Pregnancy, etc. Where do we connect with the population that needs us most? 4-Fundraising: KK Race, March 4 th, 2017, and any other fundraising options restaurant days, etc. 5-Organizational Efficiencies: HR Policies-Salary Study/Job Descriptions/Performance Reviews (6 months)-this work will be done by the Executive Committee.
