GCRF: Effective Budget Changes effective % budget change by 19/20 compared to 15/16 (if you exclude the GCFR from allocations) AHRC -7% BBSRC -7% EPSRC -3% ESRC -7% MRC -4% NERC -4% STFC 3% HEFCE 1% UK SPACE AGENCY 25% NATIONAL ACADEMIES 0% OTHER PROGRAMMES -20% NEWTON FUNDING 67%

GCRF: ODA Funding is part of the UK's pledge to spend 0.7% of gross national income on Official Development Assistance (ODA) Research is not aid. However, research directly and primarily relevant to the problems of developing countries may be counted as ODA. The costs may still be counted as ODA if the research is carried out in a developed country.

GCRF: allocations Money to be split between: (i) Core Allocations to individual Research Councils and other funders (ii) Collective Fund: common-pot being managed via RCUK Largest amount is in the Collective Fund and all research councils are looking to influence the priorities for this spend.

GCRF: What next? How else can we ensure that the University is best placed to meet GCRF (and Newton fund) funding opportunities? Ideas: 1. More workshops to bring academics together? 2. Information sharing on how best to work internationally? 3. Training on ODA what is ODA and how do we ensure compliance? 4. Information sharing on International Grants: working assurance, quality, insurance, compliance, financial management? 5. Annual conference show-casing and celebrating ODA Research open to all researchers Oxford ODA Conference? 6. Benchmarking against other comparable HEIs? 7. Working with local HEIs to share information and develop bids?

GCRF: Your help How else can we ensure that the University is best placed to meet GCRF (and Newton fund) funding opportunities? In small groups: 1. What actions are needed to ensure that the University effectively secures and manages GCRF (& Newton Fund)? 2. Can you prioritise those actions? Top three?
