Fueled by national service, we partner with public schools in 28 urban, high-need communities across the U.S. and through international affiliates in the U.K. and Johannesburg, South Africa. Diverse teams of City Year AmeriCorps members provide research-based student, classroom and school-wide supports to help students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school, ready for college and career success. A 2015 study shows that schools that partner with City Year were up to 2-3 times more likely to improve on math and English assessments. During the school year, 189 City Year Washington, DC AmeriCorps members serve fulltime in 18 DC schools to provide researchbased student, classroom and school-wide supports to help students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school, ready for college and career success. Idealist of the Year WHO IS AN IDEALIST OF THE YEAR? An Idealist of the Year is someone who impacts the lives of others through service and volunteerism. Recipients may have made a difference in the life of one person, an organization or an entire community. Honorees personify a spirit of idealism. Some Idealists are company leaders who foster an ethic of service and volunteerism in their company or help to build the capacity of important community-based organizations. Some are co-workers who inspire their peers to give their time to help the community. And some are quiet volunteers who put in long hours outside of work to touch the lives of people in need. Too often, these people are not recognized for their powerful acts of idealism. City Year wants to change that! Honor an Idealist of the Year from your corporate family for his or her commitment to making a difference in Greater Washington, DC at City Year s!
