SANP FEBRUARY 2014 NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY MONTHLY MEETING Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2014 Time: Social time 6:30pm/Meeting 7:00pm Location: Goins Auditorium, Pellissippi State Technical Community College Our presenters this month are SANP Members Brad and Sharon Cottrell. They will be presenting two programs based on their 2013 European tour, Voyage of the Vikings and Romantic European. Their 2013 trip was very different from their 2011 trip, and Sharon gave the following locations that will be included in each program: Voyage of the Vikings which includes travels to the Fjords and Waterfalls (Norway), Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden), Helsinki (Finland), Kristiansand (Norway), Tallinn (Estonia), and St. Petersburg (Russia), Cobh, Belfast, and Dublin in Ireland, Djupivogur, Heimaey, and Reykjavik in Iceland, Nanortalik, Greenland, and St. Anthony and St. Johns in Newfoundland. Romantic European which includes Rothenburg (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic), Budapest (Hungary), Bratislava (Slovakia), Cinque Terre (Italy) and a few new pictures from Paris, Rome, Florence, Lucerne, Venice, and London. For someone thinking about a trip to these areas, these programs will give an overview of some of the best these countries have to offer. For all of us, these programs will give a great look into both the natural and cultural beauty of the Old World. BIOS Brad and Sharon have been photographers for many years selling photographs in galleries in Gatlinburg and Townsend, and winning many local photography contests. Since retiring they have traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, British Isles, and Europe using photography to document the beautiful scenery enjoyed during these travel opportunities. Brad started in photography over 40 years ago. He has earned the Certificate in Photography from Pellissippi State Community College and has won many Dogwood Arts Festival photo contests. His interest is primarily in landscape and wildlife photography. Sharon started in photography about ten years ago and since then she has won over 50 photo contests, including ten winning photos for the Knox Heritage Art and Architecture Tour. Most recently she won the 2012 Insight Vacations International Photo Contest with her photo of Santorini, which has been published in the Insight Vacations 2013 Tour Catalog and in the AAA Going Places Magazine. Both of them have also judged photography contests for most of the East Tennessee area photography clubs.

2014 SALON DINNER REGISTRATION The 2014 Salon Dinner Registration Form is included at the end of this newsletter. The 2014 SANP Salon Dinner is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2014. Please order your tickets by April 4, 2014. 2014 SALON VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Our annual SANP Salon is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2014. As usual, we need members to volunteer for various duties required for the day of the judging and for the event itself. The Salon judging will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Knoxville on Kingston Pike. For several years now the same members (for the most part) have been involved with bringing this event to fruition. They have done an excellent job, and there is a good template already in place for the logistics of the process. I would ask each member to consider helping with this event. If you are willing to help, please contact Kendall Chiles at kchiles@knology.net or Ed Dumas at ed@eddumas.com. WINSTON HALL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP WEEKEND SANP is pleased to announce that veteran nature photographer Winston Hall will be presenting a workshop weekend for us on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 & 4, 2014.
