Student Laboratory Technician At the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the safety of Canada's food supply is central to everything we do. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Microbiology Laboratory is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory that analyzes food and environmental samples for the detection of microorganisms related to food safety and public health. Additionally, the laboratory is involved in the development, validation and verification of new analytical methods. Forestry and Horticulture Survey Student plants. To support this effort, we are seeking enthusiastic students to help CFIA inspectors in the fields. For more information about the CFIA, visit www.inspection.gc.ca The summer students will be required to work in teams to complete various horticulture and forestry surveys in Central region. Some of the duties involved will include making visual assessments of plants for signs and symptoms of pests and diseases, setting up and maintaining insect traps, collecting plant and insect samples, submitting samples to the lab, using good notetaking skills to maintain survey data in the office and in the field, scheduling their own work and using a Global Position Systems (GPS) to mark locations of places surveyed. Surveys for the 2018-2019 are still to be de determined but may involve walking through forests, crop fields and in/around established structures. Surveys may take part in remote locations and on uneven ground or terrain. o The student must have some background in any type of science.
