April Member of The Month Slowride Guide Service The Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce was honored to present on April 4, 2017, the Member of the Month Award to Slowride Guide Services, to recognize them for their tremendous amount of contributions to the community. Dean Thomas, owner, enjoys attending the boat shows, sharing and visiting with people about the coastal community of Aransas Pass and the offerings of the coastal setting. Dean stated while working in Houston in the oilfield, I guided during off time. In May 2002 I opened shop in Aransas Pass. Following his natural character for the coastal waters, its resources and all it has to offer an outdoorsman. Dean previously owned a fish camp on the coast in Matagorda and has always been drawn to the adventures of being out and about and fishing the saltwater. Dean enjoys meeting people and getting them out on the water, sharing the experience of fishing and the outdoors with them. Slowride Guide Services provides guided kayak, fishing skiff, motor boat trips and guided eco -tours as well as paddle board and kayak rentals. The shop is located at 821 S. Commercial St. in Aransas Pass and one can purchase photo-maps, saltwater flies, cool t-shirts and caps, rods and reels, lures and get free fishing reports there. Housing Development Luncheon The AP Chamber "Housing Development Luncheon" Featured Guest Speakers, Trey Summers, VP of Project Development at Hogan Homes and 2017 President of the Coastal Bend Home Builder's Association and Joe Myers, Co-owner and Broker, Texas Coast Property. Chamber Luncheon focused on Housing Development and the trends in Real Estate through out the Aransas Pass Area. Summers spoke of the residential neighborhood Hogan Homes is bringing to Aransas Pass. Attendees were informed about the many aspects of the new housing development and the status of the construction. Myers addressed to the trends in the local real estate and housing market industry. Lunch was catered by Chamber Member, Marco & Co. Catering, LLC The Chamber Luncheon was held at the AP Civic Center April 21st from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m. Chamber luncheons are open to members of the Chamber as well as the public. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for social time and networking.
Ribbon Cuttings Rodent Rangers The Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting for Rodent Rangers on April 10, 2017. Owner, Ricardo (Rico) Reyes said, I opened for business in September 2013 in Flour Bluff and got out of the rat race in the city. I moved the store location to Ingleside in December 2015. My family and I love the Aransas Pass and Ingleside area and small town feel. I am passionate about the business and industry of pest management. I am a board certified Entomologist and became involved in the industry about 23 years ago when working for Pest Fog and attending school at Texas A&M Corpus, where a professor further sparked my interest in bugs. Rodent Rangers specialize in pest control and management and strive to be on the forefront of new technology and techniques in pest control, keeping in mind environment considerations, health and individuals, focusing on rodent, wildlife, and other disease vector pests. Rodent Rangers offers a full all pest control including termites. Leadership Aransas Pass Class V Session 8 Economic Development & Tourism Leadership Aransas Pass Class V met for Session 8 Economic Development and Tourism, their last session before they graduate. Juli Blanda, Cable One and LAP Alumni Class III facilitated the session. For the Tourism portion of the day, the class went on a dolphin watch tour with Kohootz Dolphin Encounters & Lighthouse Boat Tour. The dolphin watch took them to see the light house which was constructed in 1855. They learned of its rich history and its part during the Civil War. The dolphins were jumping in and out of the water making the tour an exciting one! Lunch was held at Red Fish Willie s Harbor Room for the Economic Development portion. Guest Speaker was Foster Edwards, Executive Director, San Patricio Economic Development Corporation. The facilitator also put together a Tourism Panel and the Class heard from Mike Moore, Owner Red Fish Bay Boathouse & Red Fish Willie s; Sarah Lee, Director of Community Enrichment, City of Aransas Pass; Ian Hughes, General Manager MainStay Suites, Representative Fairfield Inn & Suites and Dean Thomas, Owner Slowride Guide Services. This was the last of eight sessions for the group and now they look forward to their graduation on May 11th at the AP Civic Center.
