BioZest (November 10, 2017) BioZest is an annual science day organized by Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (FLSB), South Asian University (SAU), an international university established by the eight member nations of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC). The program will consist of inspirational talks from eminent scientists and leaders in the field of biological sciences. This science day will provide a platform for students and young scientists to display their scientific knowledge via different competitions and presentations. The program would also involve the display of cultural talents of our research scholars. This symposium would be open to students and researchers from all SAARC countries. The submitted abstracts will be screened and selected abstracts will be notified whether they have been accepted for oral/poster presentations. 1
Abstract guidelines/instructions 1. The title should be bold. Author(s) list and institution(s) name should be added below. 2. Presenting author name should be underlined. 3. The abstract should be no more than 300 words on a single page and unstructured. 4. Please use sentence case; font size: 12; font: Arial. 5. The document must fit 8 1/2" x 11" letter format. 6. Use standard abbreviations in your abstract as needed. 7. Please use the template provided to prepare your abstract. 8. A person can submit only a single abstract as a presenting author. 9. Only research-based abstract will be entertained. 10. Please include acknowledgments for your research if any at the end of the abstract. 11. BioQuest: Science Quiz BioZest 2017 presents BioQuest, a science quiz. The quiz will test your knowledge on general biology and scientific aptitude. We invite B.Sc. and M.Sc. students (in any field of Biology) to register and participate in the quiz. Rules of the Quiz 1. Only B.Sc. and M.Sc. students are eligible to participate in BioQuest quiz competition. 2. Registration for BioZest 2017 is mandatory to participate in the BioQuest contest. 3. Only team entries are eligible. A team shall consist of two members from a Department per College. 4. The participants should submit an approval letter from the Department Head along with the copy of their student ID card. 5. The participants would not be allowed to use mobile or any other electronic gadget. 6. The decision of quiz committee will be final. 7. Replacement of any participant is not allowed after registration. 8. The quiz will have multiple rounds including preliminary round and question will be asked based on general Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and beyond. 9. Winners will be awarded. Please register by October 20, 2017, as the number of seats is limited. IV. Imagica: Science Photo Contest Photography is an art and when mixed with science, it can be a spectacle. We, on behalf of the organizing committee of BioZest 2017, an annual FLSB science day, invite everyone to join us in celebrating the interdisciplinarity of science by capturing its extraordinary moments through the lens. The theme of this year s photo contest is Science and Nature. The contest is open to all B.Sc./M.Sc./Ph.D. students. Rules of the contest: 1. Only one photo entry per person is permitted. The photograph should be originally clicked by you on the theme of the contest. 2. Basic editing, use of filters, cropping of the photo is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity or genuineness of the photo. 3. Photographs with advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and/or manipulations, and the adding and/or 2
removing of significant elements within the frame will not be accepted. 4. Photos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content and/or any other contents deemed to be contrary to the law, religion, culture and moral traditions and practices in India, will not be accepted for the contest. 5. Photographs downloaded or copied from the internet or from any other source are not accepted. 6. Please write a brief description of the photo and where the photograph was taken while submitting the soft copy of the photo. This will be displayed along with your photo if it is selected for the contest. Soft copies of the photos should be high-resolution images of 600 dpi in JPEG format of size less than 5MB and can be emailed to biozest2017@gmail.com by October 13, 2017. 7. The entrants will be notified in case their photo has been selected for the final round of the contest. In that case, the entrant should print 2 copies of the photo (11 X 17 inches) with a top border of 1 inch. The photograph should be printed on a Matt/ Glossy photographic paper only. Colored printouts on normal paper will not be accepted. The hard copies of the prints should reach SAU by October 25, 2017 8. Please do not write your name on the hard copy of the photo. 9. By participating in the contest, you are permitting the organizing committee of Imagica for public display of the images. 10. The photographs will be judged for novelty, creativity, and quality. The decision of the judges will be final. 11. Participants whose photos are selected for contest have to register for BioZest 2017. Photos along with completed registration form and fees of BioZest 2017 by October 20, 2017. V. Science Rangoli Contest Let s celebrate science by decorating the floor with scientific ideas using the brightness of color. We are organising a science rangoli contest as part of BioZest 2017, FLSB annual science day. Rules of the contest: 1. One team of two students is allowed per department or college. 2. Rangoli contest will be theme based and theme will be provided on the spot. Participants will be given 1 hour time to make the Rangoli. 3. Space of 2 feet x 2 feet will be provided to each team. 4. The team members will have to bring colors and materials for Rangoli. Participants can bring and use sieve or cone. 5. Use of mobiles or pictures will be prohibited during rangoli and team found to use unfair means will be disqualified. 6. Judgement will be based of novelty, creativity, clarity of the theme. The decisions of Judges will be final. 7. Registration for BioZest 2017 is mandatory before the deadline for participation in any event. 8. Winners will be awarded.
