Date: June 2014 Job Title : Senior Medical Officer Obstetric Department : Women s Health Child Women and Family Service Location : North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals Reporting To : Clinical Directors Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service Manager Women s Health Direct Reports : Nil Functional Relationships with : Internal Medical Staff Management Staff Nursing staff Support Services External Patients/clients, relatives, care givers and whanau General Practitioners Medical Council Purpose : To provide a high standard of clinical practice in the management and delivery of Obstetrics & Gynaecological care to the women of Waitemata region KEY TASKS Undertakes clinical duties in the care of patients as per contract of employment EXPECTED OUTCOMES Gestational Diabetes Outpatients Clinics and other Obstetric Related Outpatient clinics Ward rounds and care of Obstetric Medical inpatients Reading and responding to patient referral letters Attendance at multi disciplinary meetings, case conferences and reviews as required Research and study related to the treatment of a specific patient Provision of medical reports to police, ACC, coroner etc Waitemata District Health Board SMO Obstetric June 2014 - Page 1

KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Keeps up to date with healthcare trends and medical research. Maintains updated knowledge and skill of medical practices and trends in health management. Identifies personal and professional development requirements through ongoing appraisal. To establish a strong collegial relationship with other services within the Auckland region and outside the region. Identifies areas for overall improvement for the service. Actively promotes and implements change as required to achieve overall organizational goals Review current processes and practice to develop creative solutions to meet the future needs of the organization and the population it serves. Actively participates in the development of the Diabetes in Pregnancy service for WDHB Contributes to the ongoing development of Waitemata Health by leading, promoting and demonstrating the vision and values of the organization Clinical audit and peer review programmes are in place and all documentation is consistent with policies. Provides open channel of communication and feedback regarding self and peer performance. Provides direct clinical supervision to junior medical staff working in Women s Health Builds and maintains a broad network of contacts and relationships at all levels Health industry meetings, forums and conferences are attended and relationships established with a broad range of health contacts. Networks for support are sought and communication channels are established between the organization and external organizations. Works with the Clinical Director and Operations Manager in the development of quality initiatives for the service ensuring the quality improvement programme is implemented. Demonstrates a flexibility and willingness to adapt to new requirements of the organization.
