Regular library service will resume on Monday, October 16 at 10:00 A.M. The Allen Park Public Library will also be closing early at 4:00 P.M. on: Tuesday, October 31. As always, our dropbox, located on the wall to the left of our parking lot entrance, is available 24/7. Happy Halloween from your friends at the Allen Park Public Library! 18TH ANNUAL HAUNTED LIBRARY What happens when you mix a library, a Balloon Meister, and hundreds of children trick-or-treating? You get our Haunted Library event, of course! Join us on Saturday, October 14 from 10:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. for our 18th Annual Haunted Library event. Children are invited to dress up in their favorite costume and trick-or-treat throughout the library for prizes! The Balloon Meister will also be here twisting balloon creations. Make sure you stop by our craft area and make a festive Halloween craft! Tween and teen volunteers are needed to help pass out prizes at this event! If you would like to volunteer, please call the library at 313-381-2425 or email our Teen Librarian, Brandi Swinehart, at bswinehart@allenparklibrary.org. No registration is required to attend this free event. TEEN READ WEEK EVENTS Teen Read Week kicks off on Monday, October 9 with our Mummy Escape Room challenges at 5:30 P.M. or 7:00 P.M. Teams will work together to crack codes and find their way out of an ancient tomb on the River Nile. On Tuesday, October 10 at 6:00 P.M., Psychic Medium and author Kristy Robinett will be here discussing her latest book. Kristy has been using her gift of psychic mediumship since childhood. She is the author of several books and has lectured and appeared on media outlets all over the country. Walking under ladders, black cats, broken mirrors and more! Set your superstitions aside and join us for a Superstition Dinner Party on Friday, October 13 at 6:00 P.M. Registration is required to attend all of these programs. Kids Corner FALL STORYTIMES Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays at 1:00 P.M. October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 For children ages 3-5 who can participate independently. Caregivers & siblings wait in the library. Toddler: Wednesdays at 10:45 A.M. October 4, 11, 18 & 25 For children ages 2-3 with parent or other adult. Caregivers are required to participate. Sixteen program passes will be handed out at the circulation desk 15 minutes prior to the start of the program. Late arrivals will not be allowed to enter the meeting room. STORYTIME GUIDELINES Arrive Early: Allow you and your little one enough time to get settled before storytime begins. Storytimes start promptly at their scheduled time. Once the meeting room door is closed, you and your child will not be permitted to attend storytime. MAKER MONDAYS October 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Children are invited to dress up in their Halloween best and trick-or-treat for prizes and crafts around the library. Marc Meyer, the Balloon Meister, will also be here twisting balloon creations! Please leave accessories (swords, magic wands, etc.) at home. Library open this day for event only. Regular library services will resume on Monday, October 16. Visit the Restroom: Leave enough time for a trip to the restroom before storytime begins. Children who need to use the restroom during storytime will not be allowed to re-enter the meeting room. Courtesy to All: If a parent or guardian is in attendance (Toddler Storytime), please silence your cell phones at the beginning of storytime. Please do not bring any snacks to storytime. We also ask that you leave your child(ren) s stuffed friends or toys out in the library. Caregiver participation is expected. Prepare for Storytime: Preschool Storytime is our only storytime where children go into the meeting room by themselves. Prepare your child to attend without an adult. Behavior Expectations: Young children like to explore but doing so should not prevent others from enjoying their storytime. Please help encourage positive behaviors like good listening, following directions. and being respectful of people and things in the meeting room. Thank you for your cooperation!
