Health is the basic human right. Hence health care delivery system requires competency in the care of the clients. Nursing is key to health care delivery system. However there is acute shortage of the nursing personnel not only in India but throughout the World. It has created the demand of increased number of nursing institutions to train the nurses as per the present and future demands of qualified nurses. In order to fulfil this demand St. Barnabas Hospital has started B. Sc nursing course. I. ABOUT US 1. About the college The global population is in rise however the number of health care workers is decreasing relatively. More and more nurses are migrating abroad that is leading India to face an acute shortage of faculty and clinical practitioners. This necessitates the initialization of more and more nursing educational institutions to meet local, national and global demand for health care providers. Today s demand is nurses with university degree. These nurses provide leadership in various health care settings and also quality care to individuals in need of health care. In order to respond to these demands and needs and to be able to prepare nurses for national health care delivery program; it was resolved in 2012 to start Basic B. Sc nursing course in St Barnabas Hospital College of nursing (SBHCON). SBHCON came into existence in the year 2015 with motto of Education, Service, Leadership & Innovation. Its overall aim of nursing program is to prepare graduate Nurses to work as frontline worker in the clinical and community field and educational arena. The SBHCON aims to create leaders in the nursing professionals by providing unique, innovative program that are responsive to the market need, keeping in mind the rapid advance in the health care sector in India. The curriculum emphasizes on a holistic approach to nursing care, in order to ensure an all-round growth of the nursing students. Student nurses are trained to meet the standards of professionalism and maintain the highest standard of clinical practice. The parent hospital of the college is St. Barnabas Hospital that provides the necessary clinical experience for the students pursuing this hospital based academic program. 6

The Govt. of Jharkhand granted permission to start the courses by its order no. 10/Nursing 10-02/2013 189 (10) dated 31.7.2014. Indian Nursing Council recognizes our B. Sc nursing program with permission of 40 seats. Jharkhand Nursing Council also recognizes our college of nursing. College is affiliated to Ranchi University. 2. Management The St. Barnabas Hospital College of Nursing is managed by Diocese of Chtotanagpur, Ranchi of Church of North India through its Chotanagpur Diocesan Educational Society. 3. Mission statement: The mission of the St. Barnabas Hospital College of nursing is to promote excellence & innovative education based upon Christian principles and core values of nursing for preparing professional nurses, nurse leaders & nurse educators who will engage themselves in lifelong learning in order to make a positive difference in the health of individuals and community. 4. 2. Aim The aim of the undergraduate program is to: a). Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services b). Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor and manager in a clinical/public health setting. 3. Goals of the B. Sc. Nursing Program Based upon its mission and core values, the goals of the St. Barnabas Hospital College of nursing program are to: a). Prepare graduates to practice as nurse generalists and contributing members of the nursing profession to promote, maintain and restore the health of clients and meet their changing health care needs b). Build students capacity of teaching and supervision in appropriate nursing and health care settings. c). Promote creativity and skills in critical thinking, research, problem solving, communication and information management. d). Foster ethical and moral values and attitudes in students which are consistent with the nursing profession. e). Prepare graduates to contribute to the advancement of professional nursing and the improvement of the health care system. f). Sc Nursing Degree Program Outcomes On completion of the four year B.Sc. Nursing program the graduates will be able to: a). Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities. b). Demonstrate understanding of the determinants of health and their inter-connectedness which affect health of individuals and groups. c). Employ the Nursing Process to implement comprehensive and culturally effective care. d). Demonstrate clinical competence in performance of nursing skills to provide safe nursing care. e). Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care. f). Utilize the latest trends and technology judiciously in providing health care. g). Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programs. h). Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries. 9

i).communicate effectively with individuals, groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and professional teamwork. j). Demonstrate skills in teaching individuals and groups in clinical/community settings. k). Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system. l). Utilize principles of management and leadership to collaborate with health care team in clinical/ community settings. m). Assist in need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care. n). Demonstrate awareness and interest in professional issues and contribute towards advancement of self and of the profession 5. Duration of the Course Duration of the B.Sc. Nursing course will be four calendar years that include six months rotational internship in the hospital and college. 6. Accreditation Our four-year B.Sc. Nursing Program is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Jharkhand Nurses Registration Council (JNRC) and is affiliated to Ranchi University. 7. Hours of Instructions The syllabus and course schedule for B.Sc. (Nursing) Degree is strictly as prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and Ranchi University. 10

Methods & Medium of Teaching 13

Medium of teaching is English but Hindi is used whenever it is required. Variety of modern and participatory methods of teaching is used such as interactive lectures, demonstrations, discussions, role play, seminars, panel discussions etc with latest A. V. aids. III. ADMISSION PROCESS 1. Entry requirements A candidate seeking admission to First year B.Sc. Nursing Course must have passed the examination as listed below: Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2), Pre Degree Examination (10+2) OR Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course) A candidate should have passed in the subjects of PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English individually and must have obtained minimum 45% marks taken together in PCB in qualifying examination i.e. 10+2. Furthermore, the candidates belonging to SC/ST or other backward classes, the marks obtained in PCB taken together in qualifying examination is 40% instead of 45% as stated above. English is a compulsory subject in 10+2 for being eligible for admission to B. Sc (N). Female candidates who are unmarried/divorcee/legally separated or widow without encumbrances. Candidates should have completed the minimum age of 17 years on or before the 31st Dec 2018. Upper age limit is 30 years. The candidate should be medically fit. The candidates who appeared in 10+2 examination and their result are not yet been declared may also apply. Candidates can apply online through St. Barnabas Hospital College of Nursing website (www.sbhcollegeofnursing.org). Last date of filling online of application form is July 31, 2018. 14

2. Number of Seats: Forty (40) seats are available for admission to the Basic B. Sc Nursing course 3. Procedure for applying Prospectus is available in St. Barnabas Hospital College of Nursing website at www.sbhcollegeofnursing.com w.e.f. March 21, 2018 to 31 st July, 2018. Candidates may see the instructions for online Registration and filling up of the online Application Form. Note: No request for sending the Prospectus & Application form by post will be entertained. 4. Online Registration, Submission of online application form and procedure of payment: (a) Registration & Submission of Application Form will be online mode only and candidate will have to register for entrance examination in the online portal available at Institute s website www.sbhcollegeofnursing.com. Candidates will receive an email message regarding their User ID and password after a successful registration. Therefore, candidates should fill in their proper mobile number and email id. Candidates are advised to write down their user id and password on a paper and keep in safe custody. Candidates are advised to retain the copy of Bank slip. Candidates should follow the Instructions in the online portal as given in the Annexure- I NOTE: Applications submitted without the Examination Fee shall be summarily rejected. (c) It will be the responsibility of the candidates to ensure that correct information is provided in the online Application Form regarding name, Date of Birth (DOB), Address, contact no, email address etc. (d) Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and no Correspondence or queries will be entertained in this regard. (e) If a candidate is at any stage found to have provided false information/certificate or is found to have withheld or concealed some information in her application form, she will be debarred from admission without any notice. (f) The decision of the Selection Committee, St. Barnabas Hospital College of Nursing shall be final in the matter of selection of candidates for admission to course and no appeal will be entertained in this regard. 5. Documents to be uploaded:- i). Candidate s scanned photograph of appropriate size. ii). Candidate s scanned signature. iii). Scanned copy of Bank slip as proof of payment. iv). Scanned copy of the High School certificate issued by the Board showing the date of birth of the applicant. 16

v). Scanned copy of the mark sheet of the 10+2 standard examination to ascertain eligibility in qualifying examination. This is not required for the candidates awaiting results of 10+ 2 examination. vi). In case, a candidate is waiting for result of 10+ 2, scanned copy of the ADMIT CARD of the said examination should be uploaded. However, original mark-sheet should be produced at the time of Counselling if qualified. Candidate may keep a print out copy of her application form FOR OWN USE. No hard copy needs to be sent to College of Nursing. 6. Down loading of Admit Card i). Admit Card to the eligible candidates for appearing in the Entrance Examination has to be Downloaded online from the Institute s website by logging with candidate s own password provided at the time of her registration for entrance examination on August 27, 2018. ii) No other separate procedures of issuing admit Card is available. 7. Entrance Test: Entrance test will be held at 10.00 A.M. in St. Barnabas Hospital College of nursing premises. The entrance test will be of two hours (2 hours) duration and shall contain objective type (Multiple Choice) questions. The medium of examination shall be English. The question paper will have 100 (One Hundred) MCQ/objective type questions of one mark each. Each question has four options i.e. A, B, C & D. Out of which only one will be the correct option. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. The test will be based on 10+2 curriculum of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and shall also include some items on English Comprehension and vocabulary, General Knowledge and Health in order to judge the aptitude of students towards nursing programme. No separate call letter will be sent to candidates for entrance test. Directions to Candidates for Entrance Test a). The Examination Hall/Room will be opened at least thirty minutes before the time specified for the distribution of question paper. All candidates must be in the Hall by the time specified. No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Hall after the commencement of examination. b). Material to be brought on the day of examination are Hall ticket, Card Board/ Clip board and Ball Point pens of good quality (Blue/ Black Ball Point Pen) only. c). Each candidate must show on demand her Hall Ticket bearing her Roll Number for admission to the Examination Hall. d). A seat with a Roll number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates must find out and occupy their allotted seats. e). Candidates should follow the instruction for filling up the Answer Sheet. f). All rough work is to be done on the back of the Question Booklet only. The candidates are not allowed to do any rough work or put stray mark on the Answer Sheet. g). Answers should be encircled in the answer sheet supplied to the candidate. 18

h). Candidates are forbidden to write answers (or anything else) on the question paper or on the foot ruler or carry with them any paper from the room. i). Candidates are forbidden to write their name or any distinctive mark leading to disclosure of their identity in any part of their answer sheet. j). Candidates will be required to sign their names when directed to do so. k). No Tea, Coffee, Cold Drinks or Snacks are allowed to be taken into Examination Hall/Room during examination hours. l). No Cell Phones are allowed inside the Examination Hall m). A candidate found guilty of the use of dishonest or unfair means or disorderly conducting the examination may be disqualified. n). Candidates should not leave the Examination Hall/Room without handing over their Answer-Sheet and the Question Paper to the invigilator on duty. o). After the allotted time, the answer book must be surrendered even though the candidate may not have answered all parts of the question paper. 8. Declaration of Result and Procedure for Selection a) Result of the Entrance Test in order of merit will be declared next day and will be displayed on the Institute s Notice board, and also be made available in the Institute s website at www.sbhcollegeofnursinng.org. No correspondence regarding results will be issued to individual candidate. Result of successful candidates in the Entrance Examination along with waiting list will be placed in the official website: [www.sbhcollegeofnursing.org] and Institute s Notice Board. It is the responsibility of the candidate to find out the date of counselling from Institute Website/notice board, No individual call letter will be sent. b) Selected candidates shall have to attend counselling and medical examination at the Institute at their own cost on the notified date. 19

c) Candidates who are not selected will not be intimated separately and no correspondence on this subject will be entertained. d) There will be no provision for rechecking of answer sheets or communication of marks obtained at the entrance examination. 9. Counselling iii) At the time of counselling, candidates will have to attend in person and produce the Originals of the following documents: a) Age Proof: High School Certificate. b) Certificates: Pass Certificate / Provisional Pass Certificate. Character and Conduct Certificate. c) Mark Sheets: Clearly readable mark sheet of the 10+2 examination showing the marks secured by the applicants. Admission will not be finalized unless the candidates produce all the original documents. iv). There will be no allocation of marks for the counselling. It will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit in the entrance examination. v) To fill vacancies arising due to failure of appearance by the selected candidates, sufficient number of candidates from the waiting list will also be called for counselling. Such candidates will have to appear for the counselling on the notified date at their own cost. vi. Candidates who fail to attend counselling/medical examination on the notified date shall forfeit their claim for admission and placement in the waiting list. 10. Basis of Selection The selection of the candidates for the admission to the B. Sc Nursing course will be based on the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test, Counselling and medical clearance. 20

11. Inter- Se- Merit If two or more candidates obtain equal marks in the entrance examination for admission to the B.Sc. Nursing Course, their inter-se-merit for admission to the course shall be determined on the basis of the following:- a) Candidate securing more marks in Biology (aggregate in Zoology and Botany) in Entrance Examination will be preferred. b) In case of tie in Biology marks, candidate securing more marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in aggregate (PCB) in Entrance Examination will be preferred. c) In the event of tie even after this, candidate senior in age shall rank senior to the candidate who is junior in age. 12. Admission a).candidates selected after counselling shall have to pay 50% of the fee within a week or by stipulated date, failing which his/her selection shall be treated as cancelled and seat will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list in order of merit. b) Selected candidates who have been admitted but failed to join the course within a week after the commencement of the academic session shall automatically stand to forfeit their seat and no correspondence shall be entertained. c) All students admitted to the Institute will have to give an undertaking counter signed by parents/legal guardian, that he/she shall maintain good conduct, pay the requisite fees and other charges by the scheduled date, attend classes regularly and abide by the rules and regulations of the Institute failing which he/she is likely to be suspended or terminated as a student of the Institute. d) Any dispute in regard to any matter referred to herein shall be subjected to the jurisdiction of the Honorable Court of Ranchi, Jharkhand only. IV. Financial Information 21

1. Fees a). Fees will be charged based on the expenses incurred on education and other facilities offered. Newly admitted students must pay their fees within the prescribed period, which will be notified by the College office. No refund of fee is permitted on account of withdrawal/absence from college or other reasons once a student is admitted to the college. 22

i). If any student after admission to the course decides to withdraw voluntarily from the college at any time before completing the course she will be required to pay remaining years fees. However, fees already paid will not be refunded. 2. Additional fees in case of failure or extension of course a). Any student whose course is extended due to failure in examinations or shortage of attendance or any other disciplinary reasons will have to pay fees for the period of extension. b). Expenses such as Examination fees, Uniform, travel to other examination centres or for educational tours and clinical experiences in other clinical settings (other than the parent hospital) will have to be paid by the student. V. After Admission a). All candidates for admission must acquaint themselves with the rules and regulations of St. Barnabas Hospital College of nursing and will be bound by them, if admitted. b). A student hand book will be issued at the time of commencement of classes, which will contain all the rules and regulations and policies in detail. The students shall strictly abide by them. VI. Facilities Available 1. Nursing Practice: The St. Barnabas hospital and its affiliated hospitals with various specialities is made available to the students for clinical experience. Laboratories such as Nursing Foundation, Advance Nursing Skill Lab, MCH, Nutrition and Community health labs are available for students to practice nursing procedures. 2. Computer Lab: 23

Computer lab with WiFi facility is available for students to enhance their computer skills. 3. Community Health Nursing: Well developed urban & rural community centers are at the disposal of students for meaningful community health nursing experience. 4. Library Service: Library service with audiovisual aids is available to help the students in their learning process. They shall follow all the rules of the library. 5. Students support: Individualized attention right through the programme are provided to students. 6. Religious Activities: Students are encouraged to participate in religious activities such as attending morning devotions, church, Bible studies etc. 7. Extra Curricular Activities: In view of the main aim of education as the total development of the person, a number of opportunities are provided for the students to develop their skills and talents at various levels, such as through membership to the Student Nurses Associations and participation at local, state and national conferences and scientific exhibitions which promote leadership potentialities in the students. Besides these, opportunities to develop talents in music, dance, indoor and outdoor games and sports also are provided. 8. Health Services: a). On admission every student will undergo a Medical Examination. An Annual physical check-up will be done for all the students. b). In case of sickness students are to report to the tutor incharge of health or warden. Nursing and bed charges will be free for students if treated at St. Barnabas Hospital. 24

c.) During the course, a high standard of health has to be maintained. In case of any illness as that of epilepsy, heart diseases and major health deviations detected after admission, the student may be asked to discontinue the course. 9. Hostel and Mess a). Stay in the hostel is mandatory. During the stay in the hostel, the student will strictly adhere to the Hostel Rules. b). Rooms are provided with furniture. c). The list of things that the students should bring for their stay at the College will be provided to the selected candidates. d). Students should not bring any valuable jewellery. The College will not take any responsibility for loss or theft. e). Food will be provided in the Mess. All the students of the hostel are required to join the mess. The charges will be communicated every year. f). Details Rules regarding Hostel and Mess are available in the student handbook. 10. Telephone Calls: Telephone facility is available in the hostel premises. The College does not entertain direct telephone calls to the students during working hours. Any message should be passed on through the Principal/Vice Principal / Office. 11. College sports: Arrangements are made for sports and games according to the season and facilities available at college. 12. Students Association: The Students Association are organized with the approval of the Principal to promote the cultural and extra-academic activities of the students. 25

All political and organisational activities are strictly prohibited in the campus. However, those Organisations that are complementary to the academic pursuit can be permitted by the Principal. 13. Transport facility College bus transports students to clinical sites for practice. VII. Academic Disciplines/Standards 1. Academic atmosphere: a). Nobody shall disrupt the academic atmosphere of the college under any circumstances. Any such activities that may hamper the academic ambience of the institution will be seriously dealt with. Such misconduct would entail major punishment. b). Destruction of college properties would entail civil as well as criminal proceedings. c). Nobody shall instigate or engage in activities such as strike, demonstration, agitation, slogan shouting etc. within college campus. 2. Academic Progress and Clinical Evaluation: a). All Students are expected to maintain a high academic and clinical standard of performance throughout the programme. b). Regular written and practical sessional examinations will be conducted. Consistent standards are expected at all times. c). Students who do not show any progress or who fail repeatedly will not be allowed to appear for examination / continue the course. 3. Internal Assessment: Internal assessment in each subject is carried out at prescribed times as per the weightage of the total university marks. Passing in the internal assessment is the prerequisite to appearing for the University examination. 26

4. Examination: The students will appear for theory and practical examination of the University at the end of every academic year as prescribed. A mid-term examination and pre final model examinations will be conducted every year by the college. Examination fee, as determined by the University, should be paid by the students. Those not having at least 80% of attendance for theory and 100% attendance for clinical in any subject will not be permitted to appear for examination. VIII. General Discipline 1. Attendance: Nursing Profession, which demands altruistic service from its members, requires self discipline at a personal level and general discipline in the campus. Therefore regular attendance as well as punctuality is expected from the students at lectures, demonstrations, practical, field works and other such academic exercise as well as experiences. They are required to attend allotted working periods in each of the prescribed subjects. 2. Loyalty: Students will strive at all costs to be loyal to the Institution and to promote its image and status by a humane, ethical and professional code of conduct. Failure to follow these and such other regulations will necessitate the management to take disciplinary action as deemed fit. 3. Ragging: Ragging is prohibited by law and is totally banned in the college. It is a criminal offence and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging is liable to be punished appropriately as per law/ugc guidelines. 27

Students are not to indulge either individually or collectively, in any form of activity that will bring down the good name of the Institution / Nursing profession. 4. Class room a).every student is required to attend punctually at the hours notified for lectures and practical classes. b). Attendance will be marked by the Teacher. Any misbehaviour in the classroom will be reported to the Principal for further necessary action. c). Students are not permitted to remain in the lecture room except at the prescribed hours of the lectures. d). If the student does not attend classes continuously for 15 days without information/valid reason her admission will stand cancelled. e). Mobile telephones are not allowed inside the class room. 5. Books: a). Every student shall provide herself with all the prescribed text books. b). Every student to whom library books are entrusted shall be held responsible for their preservation of good condition and in the event of their being lost or damaged shall be required to replace them or pay their cost. 6. Educational Field Visit: During the course of studies the students will be sent for educational field visit. Expenses will be borne by the students. 7. Withdrawal from the Course: As a matter of Policy, Students are not relieved during the course of study. However, if any student after admission to the course decides to withdraw voluntarily from the college at any time before completing the course she shall communicate her decision to the Management in writing along with a letter from her parents in support of her decision. 28

A student who fulfils these formalities and who is permitted to withdraw from the course is required to pay the fees of remaining period of the course. However, fees already paid will not be refunded. 8. Graduation: a). On successful completion of the B.Sc. Nursing programme, the graduates are awarded the B.Sc. Nursing degree. Transcript, original certificates and course completion certificates are given only when the Graduates meet all the course requirements of the college. b). The graduates are expected to register themselves with the Jharkhand Nursing Council and also enrol as members of TNAI. c). Following the successful completion of the programme, the Graduates will have Graduation ceremony in the Institution. No student who has failed in the final exams will be allowed for graduation march. 9. Vacation: a). The trainee will not be entitled for any kind of leave except prescribed vacations as per INC. No leave will be granted when examination is due. b). In all cases leave taken will be at the students own risk so far as the percentage of attendance is concerned and even medical certificate will not be condone a deficiency in attendance for a University examination. c). Students must not leave the station without the permission of the Principal. d). If the students are unable to return on time due to illness, the Principal should be intimated immediately by telephone/e- mail followed by a written explanation. On return, they should submit a medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner stating full particulars of their illness and treatment. 29

e). Students are not granted leave for social events in the family. In case a student absents herself from duty/class for any reasons and the Principal is not satisfied with the explanation regarding her absence, the student will be asked to make up for the number of days she was absent at the rate of 2 days for a day of absence, as approved by the Principal. 10. Uniform: a). Students have to strictly abide by the dress code of the college. Decency and decorum in attire is expected from all students. b). Candidates have to wear Purple colour top and trouser with white lab coat and black low heeled shoes during field and clinical duty. Uniform will be supplied by the college on payment. c). All the students are required to wear their identity card while they are in the college or clinical areas. Identity cards will be issued by the College after admission on payment. d). A sense of decorum and discipline is expected to every student in the college, hospital as well as in the entire campus. 30
