Description of Project Partnership with 2 adult schools in San Mateo County 12-week short course in health careers & healthcare navigation Focus on health systems, healthcare occupations, patient communication, chronic diseases, basic life support (CPR/AED) and first aid Workshops in employment readiness, intercultural communication, and colleague communication Registration for allied health bridge and other programs in San Mateo Community College District Volunteer & internship opportunities with area employers
Description of Partners Skyline College Community college serving >9,000 students in Northern San Mateo County Major allied health programs include: Administrative Medical Assistant (Includes Patient Navigation) Surgical Careers (Surgical Technology & Sterile Processing) Respiratory Care (Associate s and Bachelor s Degrees) Emergency Medical Care (EMT Certificate) Jewish Vocational Service JVS has helped more than 75,000 clients develop in-demand skills, make connections and get good jobs Since 1992, JVS trained > 4,000 clients for jobs in healthcare Since 1993, JVS placed > 5,000 youth in internships Skills to Work programs focus on healthcare, technology, and financial services Train clients in a variety of healthcare roles (e.g., Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Nursing, etc.)

Biggest Challenges Securing meaningful internships with area health providers Job placement is a significant challenge with entry-level, short course training. Longer, multi-semester certification sequences lead to better employment outlook Gaining state recognition of Patient Navigator Certificate (Petition has been in the cue almost 1 year)
Future Plans Expand course to full semester-length in Fall Explore additional certificate offerings (e.g., IHHS) Explore credit options if feasible Strengthen employer pipeline
