MOUNT MARY UNIVERSITY FACT BOOK FALL 2017

Mount Mary University, an urban Catholic university for women, sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, provides an environment for the development of the whole person. The University encourages leadership, integrity, and a deep sense of social justice arising from a sensitivity to moral values and Christian principles. Mount Mary commits itself to excellence in teaching and learning with an emphasis on thinking critically and creatively. The baccalaureate curriculum integrates the liberal arts with career preparation for women of diverse ages and personal circumstances; the programs at the graduate level provide opportunities for both men and women to enhance their professional excellence.

Values Mount Mary University education reflects a core group of values and is distinguished by the following characteristics. Competence Committing to excellence in teaching and learning with an emphasis on critical thinking Integrating the liberal arts with career preparation Enhancing professional excellence at the graduate level Community Developing a learning environment founded on the spirit of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), a community of women rooted in the Catholic tradition Promoting a diverse learning community, which is inspired by the SSND witness to unity in a divided world Working in partnership with local, national and global organizations Compassion Promoting a deep sense of social justice arising from sensitivity to moral values and Christian principles, since the SSND legacy is one which confronts with the gospel message those elements which impede human development and unity Commitment Encouraging leadership and integrity because of the conviction that each individual is created in God s image and thus a person of dignity Providing an environment for the development of the whole person because the SSND educational stance is grounded in a Christian vision of who the person is called to be and what the world is destined to become

Section 3: Campus Life Instructional Resources and Information Technology Mount Mary University has 240 computers that are dedicated to supporting student learning with 68 of those located in discipline-specific labs (e.g. Fashion, Interior Design, Graphic Design, etc.) We have 57 computer/projector stations located in classrooms for presentations. Each room in the residence hall has a network connection and wireless is available across campus. There is no monitoring of the level of usage of equipment with the exception of the number of courses and enrolled students assigned to particular rooms. We do monitor overall internet usage to make sure we have adequate bandwidth to meet the needs of the campus. The University maintains a scholarly library and professional library staff. Library staff provide information fluency training and research assistance via telephone, email, and in person (by walk-in or appointment). Library staff also provide full-level teaching in classes as requested by Faculty. The library staff also maintains an online library catalog (Worldcat) at http://mountmaryuniversity.worldcat.org/ as well as a library web page (http://mtmary.edu/campuslife/resources/library/index.html) that includes online databases and journals at that can be accessed off and on campus. The Library maintains usage statistics such as patron counts, reference requests, check-outs, Interlibrary loan usage as well as the use of the online databases and journals. In addition, current library space was renovated during Summer 2011 to house Mount Mary University s new Student Success Center and Learning Commons. The 18,500 square foot project includes technology updates that support Wi-Fi, smart phones, and tablets. Laptop computers will also be available through a loaner program to provide portable computer access to all students.
