Nutritinal Quality f Fds and Beverages Sld and Served n Campus T maximize the CMO s ability t prvide nutritius meals and snacks, all Fentn schls participate in available federal schl nutritin prgrams, including the Natinal Schl Lunch and Schl Breakfast Prgrams. All schl meals meet r exceed USDA standards and pririty is given t serving unprcessed fds, made with fresh ingredients. Meal Scheduling All fd served t students is prepared in health-inspected facilities under the guidance f fd safety certified staff. A cpy f the mst current inspectin is psted in each kitchen facility. Students are prvided access t hand washing r hand sanitizing befre meals and snacks. Schls prvide a pleasant envirnment and adequate seating fr students t eat cmfrtably. Custdial staff cleans cafeterias and multipurpse rms where students eat several times thrughut the day, especially during times when meals are served. Students are given adequate time t eat meals; n less than 10 minutes fr breakfast and n less than 20 minutes fr lunch after being served. Meal perids are scheduled at apprpriate times, 10 a.m. t 2 p.m. fr lunch.
Fd as Reward Fundraising A 2-hur gap ccurs between meals. Students are prvided with at least 10 minutes t eat after sitting dwn fr breakfast and 20 minutes t eat after sitting dwn fr lunch. Schls prvide access t free, safe drinking water during meal times in the fd service areas. Filtered water drinking funtains are available thrughut all campuses. Students are encuraged t cnsume water regularly fr the purpse f prmting hydratin fr ptimal health. Measures are taken t increase student access t breakfast including breakfast in the classrm (FPC), secnd chance breakfast (FACS), and prviding incentives and parent ntificatin abut each schl s breakfast prgram(s). Fds r beverages are nt used as rewards and/r withheld as punishment fr academic perfrmance r behavir. Fundraisers are apprved by ne f the gverning cuncils. Fundraising is supprtive f healthy eating by emphasizing the sale f healthy fd items r f nn-fd items. Fundraising activities invlving the sale f fd will either cmply with Smart Snacks in Schls (SSIS) r take place utside the schl day AND meet the Cmpetitive Fds guidelines. External rganizatins, parents, and thers using schl prperty are ntified f the schl s fundraising plicy via website. Classrm Celebratins Sharing f Fd Snacks Beverages Fd and beverages served at schl/classrm celebratins align with the WP and faculty/staff are infrmed f plicies and prcedures thrugh Staff Develpment trainings and Cuncil meetings several times during the schl year. Sharing f fds and beverages is strictly prhibited and schl cmmunity is infrmed thrugh Parent Orientatin Night and schl newsletter. Nutritin Educatin and Prmtin Nutritin Gals Nutritin Educatin Nutritin educatin is designed t prmte student wellness by encuraging participatin in the schl lunch prgram and increasing fruit and vegetable cnsumptin thrugh events such as the Alphabet Prduce Train and healthy recipe tastings. Nutritin Educatin is integrated int curriculum thrughut the schl day thrugh the use f materials prvided by the Dairy Cuncil and My Plate. Nutritin Educatin is crdinated with the larger schl cmmunity thrugh green smthie taste tests and the Alphabet Prduce Train. Gverning Cmmittees and the Schl Wellness Team ensure nutritin educatin is crdinated with schl activities. Nutritin Educatin teaches students abut crss-cultural nutritin. Entrée items frm varius cultures including ravili, edamame, and whle grain chw mein are n the schl menu. Families are encuraged t make healthy fd chices and lead a healthy lifestyle. The Wellness Plicy is shared with families during parent rientatin meetings at the beginning f the schl year. Parents receive reminders regarding the wellness plicy thrugh newsletters, meetings, etc. psted in frnt ffice. Nutritin educatin extends beynd the schl envirnment. Health educatin with a fcus n diabetes and nutritin is prvided thrugh the American Diabetes Assciatin. III. Physical Activity Gals and Physical Educatin Physical Activity Gals Physical Educatin Physical activity prmtes student wellness. All students partake in the Psychmtr Prgram in which students participate in a variety f activities that prmte health thugh exercise. 5 th graders partake in FITNESSGRAM used statewide t measure physical aptitude fr 5 th, 7 th, and 9 th grade students. The gal f FITNESSGRAM is t assist students in establishing lifetime habits f regular physical activity.
All students receive 100 minutes per week f physical educatin thrughut the entire year. Physical educatin is prvided in apprpriate student-teacher rati, ensuring adequate supervisin and minimized risk fr injury. Trained Psychmtr aides fllw the SPARK prgram under Every Student Success Act (ESSA). Regular physical activity pprtunities are prvided thrughut the schl day. Shrt physical activity breaks including Brain Breaks r stretching breaks between lessns and fr transitins are emplyed. Classrm educatin reinfrces knwledge and self-management skills needed t maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce sedentary activities such as watching televisin. Recess Students are prvided with at least 20 minutes a day f supervised recess each day. Students are encuraged t have a physically active recess perid. Each schl prvides assigned play areas and supervisin as well as equipment. N cmmunity use f schl facilities fr physical activity is available utside f the schl day. Mnitring and Plicy Review Psting Requirements Each schl site shall pst a cpy f the Wellness Plicy and regulatins n nutritin and physical activity in public view within all schl cafeterias r ther central eating areas and in the main ffices. The CMO shall disseminate health infrmatin and the Wellness Plicy t parents/guardians thrugh schl newsletters, handuts, and schl websites. Outreach t parents/guardians shall emphasize the relatinship between student health and academic perfrmance. Staff has been prvided general wellness resurces and pprtunities and a cpy f the WP. NEW REQUIREMENTS OF THE WELLNESS POLICY In accrdance with the Child Nutritin Reauthrizatin Act f 2010, each schl is in cmpliance with the Wellness Plicy. The wellness plicy will be mnitred as part f the Child Nutritin Administrative Review prcess.
