ProSafe is offering two main opportunities for the implementation of the Safe-by-Design concept in industrial innovation processes: Common Calls: Definition and funding of joint innovation projects addressing the development of nano material or nano products with the respective processes integrating the Safe-by-Design concept along the entire value chain. Twinning of projects: Collaboration with the innovation funding agencies on a national scale participating in calls for nanomaterials and products containing nanomaterials by supporting the Safe-by-Design concept with methods, training and other activities.

Purpose of the call Complementing innovation processes in industry with a Safe-by- Design (SbD) concept along the entire or a part of the value chain of a nano material or a nano inspired product. Outline call topics Integration of SbD in industrial innovation processes along the entire, or a part of, the value chain of a manufactured nano material or a nano inspired product. Participating Funding organisations or Regulatory authorities (to be confirmed by September 2015) Variable geometry: The participating funding organisations or regulatory authorities commit national/regional funds to support projects in one or more call topics. Invited European countries and regions -members/observers of the Prosafe Strategic Policy Development Group (SPDG): Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK Invited non-european countries: Argentina, Brazil, India, Israel, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, USA

Competitive Joint Transnational Call for collaborative industrial innovative projects Joint submission & evaluation but national/regional funding Each partner in a transnational consortium is financially supported by the national/regional Funding organisation and/or Regulatory authority

Eligibility criteria of proposals (to be confirmed) Proposal submitted by the project coordinator on the Electronic Submission System before the deadline; A minimum of 2 independent organisations from 2 countries participating in the call; Project coordinator from a country/region participating in the call; Given proposal Form template duly completed in English respecting the page limits; Project duration maximum 36 months; Organisations from countries/regions participating in the call eligible for financial support under the national/regional rules (type of research, organisations and project costs) Other criteria...

Eligible organisations for funding Enterprises, research institutes and universities, other, for the development and production of nano materials, nano inspired products with the respective processes. Subject to national/regional regulations of the participating countries/regions Applicants not requesting funding can be part of the project proposal if they guarantee their own funding. Project consortium Academia-industry, academia-academia or industry-industry partnerships.

Recommendations for project consortia (to be confirmed) More than two partners from two countries are encouraged to apply. Small and medium-size companies (SMEs) and/or large industry are particularly encouraged to apply, if allowed by national/regional regulations. Balanced consortia; each partner s budget must be reasonable and within national funding limits (if any). No maximum number of partners; the consortia size should be suitable for the level and complexity of the project and each partner should have a significant contribution for the transnational added value of collaboration. The total requested funding per proposals is not expected to exceed EUR 2 million unless justified by high levels of collaboration and expected impact of wide benefit to nanosafety

Application procedure: one stage proposal submission (to be confirmed) Registration of project coordinator (partner that represents the project consortium) at the Electronic Submission System (ESS) The project coordinator (on behalf of the other partners) submits the proposal duly completed on the ESS by the deadline. A proposal word template is available and page limits must be respected. If required, any additional national/regional applications must be submitted directly by the applicants to the respective national/regional Funding Organisation, according to their specific deadlines and following the requirements and procedures.

Evaluation procedure of proposals (to be confirmed) 1. Eligibility check by the Call Secretariat 2. Eligibility check by the Funding Organisations/Regulatory authorities (national/regional requirements and priorities) Proposals NOT meeting the eligibility criteria and/or the national/regional requirements will not be submitted to scientific evaluation. 3. International evaluation of eligible proposals Each proposal is evaluated by 3 independent international experts according to the 3 main evaluation criteria. One of the evaluators is appointed as rapporteur that will elaborate a consensus evaluation report for the proposal. The Evaluation Panel meeting will establish a ranking list of the eligible proposals which constitutes a recommendation for funding to the Call Committee.

Complementarity of the participants; quality of the consortium as a whole 3. Appropriateness of the management structures and procedures, including risk and innovation management 4. Coherence and effectiveness of the work plan, including appropriateness of the allocation of tasks and resources 3. Potential impact 1. Relevance for the objectives of the joint call 2. Transnational benefit & added value 3. Expected impact of the results 4. Dissemination and exploitation of results

Selection and funding procedures (to be confirmed) The selection of proposals for funding is made by the Joint Call Committee based on: The recommendation for funding by Evaluation Panel (ranking list) and on the available national/regional funding commitments. The objective is to fund the higher ranked proposals The final funding decision is taken at national/regional level
