DUBOIS COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS THAT DO NOT USE THE COMMON SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 2017-2018 These are some other local opportunities. Procedures and deadlines vary for each. 1. DUBOIS COUNTY PURDUE SCHOLARSHIP : VIRGIL "GUS" GRISSOM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Dubois County Purdue Club will be awarding four scholarships in the amount of $1000 each this spring. The scholarships have been named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Gus Grissom, who was a Purdue Alumnus and astronaut from Southern Indiana. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote a Purdue education and to provide financial assistance to local students attending Purdue. In order to be eligible, an individual must be a senior at a high school in Dubois County and must plan to attend the West Lafayette Campus of Purdue University in fall of 2018. Seniors must show academic excellence of at least a 3.0 GPA, leadership in extra-curricular activities, and a high level of community involvement. PROCEDURE: 1. Complete the Purdue Alumni Club (Virgil Gus Grissom Memorial) Scholarship Application (that can be obtained in the Guidance Office at each county high school). 2. Compose a 100-500 word essay on why Purdue University was chosen 3. Obtain three letters of reference (two being non-school related) 4. Include a current high school transcript 5. A letter of acceptance from Purdue is requested, but is not required in order to apply. (Prior to receiving scholarship money; however, the winner will be required to show an acceptance letter.) Ackerman and Family Nursing Scholarship for graduates in Dubois County who are enrolled in post-high school programs leading to a registered nurse designation. Financial need is a
primary consideration. Students with plans to return to Dubois County will receive priority consideration. ($850 renewable)) Mildred E. Schwinghammer Nursing Scholarship two scholarships for graduates in Dubois County who are enrolled in post-high school programs leading to a registered nurse designation. Financial need is a primary consideration. ($1500 renewable) Mabel L. Kuebler Nursing Scholarship for graduates in Dubois County who are enrolled in post-high school programs leading to a registered nurse designation. ($1400 renewable) Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship for those enrolled or planning to enroll, in post-high school programs leading to an ASN (Associate of Science) or BSN (Bachelor of Science) degree in nursing. The desired outcome is that the recipient returns to the area to practice after graduation. ($1500 renewable) 3. MASTERBRAND Scholarship Program is available to students whose parent(s) work for MBCI (MasterBrand Cabinets. Inc.) Seniors who will be attending a college, university, technical or trade school are eligible to apply. Up to ten scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1000 annually, renewable for up to four years. WOOD CAPITAL LODGE #138 FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE SCHOLARSHIP Applicants must be committed to pursuing an education and career in the Law Enforcement field, a high school senior who plans to enroll as a full-time student in the fall, and a resident of Dubois County. Applications are due by May 1. 5. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA DUBOIS COUNTY ALUMNI CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP This $500 award will be given to a student in Dubois County planning to attend USI full-time in the fall. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0. To apply, go to www.alumni@usi.edu/dcs2017. You will need to submit a list of school and community activities you have participated in, your employment history, and your academic awards and honors. 200-word essay is required. Deadline to apply is March 3 rd. WILLIAM MULLEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORED BY THE AVIATION ASSOCIATION OF INDIANA Scholarship is available to graduating seniors of the state of Indiana who plan to study aviation at the postsecondary level. THE HERALD YOUTH CARRIER SCHOLARSHIP Sponsoring Organization - The Herald Purpose: In memory of Todd Hochgesang, a Herald carrier who was killed in an accident on August 29, 1979, and in recognition of the dedicated service of all Herald carriers throughout the years. Eligibility: Any high school senior who has given satisfactory service as a carrier of The Herald for no less than eighteen (18) months. The applicant need not be an active carrier at the time of application. Eligible Schools: The award may be used for study at any accredited college, university, junior college, technical or trade school in the United States to which the recipient gains admission. Selection Criteria: An anonymous judging committee shall select the recipient on the basis of route performance record, general personality and need. Amount of the Award is $500 Presentation of Award: Recipient will be notified by USPS mail. Recipient must be enrolled within one year after graduation from high school. Payment of scholarship award shall be made upon verification to the Scholarship Committee that the recipient has been admitted. THE DUBOIS COUNTY ALUMNI CLUB OF INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY Two $1000 scholarships are available to Dubois County students who have a minimum GPA of 2.7 and are attending ISU full time in the fall. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors of post members. Any student with a relative (father, grandfather, brother) affiliated with Post #2366 is eligible to apply. YOUNG MINDS CHANGE LIVES EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Students who donate blood at least once during their senior year will be eligible for this American Red Cross Blood Services Scholarship. No application is required. The scholarship amount awarded by Red Cross to any student(s) from our high school is determined on the number of units collected at our blood drive. 11. DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP Two $350 scholarships will be awarding to senior girls (in Dubois, Davies, or Pike counties) who plan to enroll in a college to work in a career toward education. Applications are available in the outer guidance office in February and must be mailed by April 18 th. 12. ACTORS COMMUNITY THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP A $500 scholarship will be awarding to a senior in our area who is continuing their education in the fall. DUBOIS COUNTY BUSINESS FALL OF FAME: JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP This $1000 is available to any high school senior who has participated in Junior Achievement in the classroom or in Company Program. (Note: NDHS students have participated in the JA Personal Finance program during Economics class.) Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 and plan to attend either a two or four year program at a college, university, or technical school. There is an essay request for this scholarship and the recipient is required to read their winning essay at the Business Hall of Fame event tentatively set on evening of April 26. MEYER DISTRIBUTING/LOGISTICS SCHOLARSHIP A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one senior from each of the four Dubois County High Schools who is committed to pursuing postsecondary education and then a career in the automotive industry or logistics Selection criteria includes: A cumulative GPA of 2.5, demonstrated leadership ability in extra-curricular activities, attendance rate of at least 95% (or one year of perfect attendance), and involvement in the community. (Preference will be given to a current Meyer employee or dependent of a Meyer employee.) JOHN BOSCO YOUTH MINISTRY SCHOLARSHIP This $500 scholarship is open to graduating seniors who attend Holy Family, St. Joseph, Precious Blood, or St. Mary Parish in Japser/Ireland.
