Following Wednesday s snow day, the band and bells students were eager to go to Florida (see - Florida sun) for their spring break tour. While on tour they performed six different programs at various academies and churches in the greater Orlando area. After traveling for two days, they presented a Friday evening concert at Lady Lake SDA Church (see - Lady Lake SDA). Sabbath was a busy day as they played at Forest Lake SDA church for two church services (see - Forest Lake SDA). Sabbath ended with a vespers concert at Spring Meadows SDA Church (see - Spring Meadows SDA). Besides musical performances, another important component of music tours is general education experiences. For a number of students this is their very first time to experience Florida and some of the major attractions there. On Sunday, they went to Universal Studios for the day (see - Universal Studios). Monday they went to Daytona Beach (see - Daytona Beach) and that evening watched the Magic/76ers basketball game. Near the end of the second quarter, some selected students were able to create the halftime tunnel and greet the players as they returned from the locker room (see - basketball). Tuesday was another busy performance day. In the morning, they presented at Forest Lake Education Center (see - Forest Lake Education Center), followed by Mt. Sinai Junior Academy (see - Mt. Sinai Junior Academy). After eating lunch together with the Forest Lake Academy Band, they presented a joint concert at Forest Lake Academy, including a glorious combined version of Alleluia! LaudamusTe (see - Forest Lake Academy). Throughout their time in Florida they stayed at Pine Lake Retreat (see - Pine Lake Retreat), a youth camp near Orlando. Each day they would travel from their base to the area churches and attractions. These performances provide a wonderful time for students to lead in music and worship thoughts so that audiences can be drawn closer to God as they experience musical worship together. Numerous people commented on the quality of their music and were blessed by their program. The host churches provided potlucks for the students, providing another opportunity for students and church members to mingle together. Student leaders also present worship thoughts throughout the tour weekend. Worshiping together, sharing Jesus through music, and doing all of these activities together helps develop the group into a closer and more cohesive unit. Thank you Mr. Graves for creating a tour to not only share Jesus through music, but also provide interesting general education experiences. A big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Leiterman, Mr. Wright, Mrs. Penn, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Chadwick, Mr. & Mrs. Clayton, and Mrs. Lombard for being sponsors, and to Mr. Grzybowski and Mr. Offenback for driving the buses during this trip.
