WEST WINDS July 2, 2018 Page 2 METROBUS ROUTE CHANGES Starting Sunday, June 24, WMATA has made major changes to the Metrobus16 routes which run along Columbia Pike and are used by GHBC riders. The changes which most affect GHBC are: o Metrobus 16J and 16P (which stop on Jefferson Street in front of GHBC) are discontinued and replaced by an expanded Metrobus 16H. o Metrobus 16B (which stop on Columbia Pike) is discontinued and replace by existing Metrobus 16A and new Metrobus 16C. That means they will not stop at Columbia Pike and Jefferson Street. GHBC riders who want to use these routes must get on and off the bus at either Carlin Springs Road (0.3-mile walk) or Greenbrier Street (0.4-mile walk) For more details, see www.ghbcresidents.org/content/special%20services/transportation-local/, which has copies of the latest timetables for Metrobus 16ACE and Metrobus 16GH. CECA FOUNDATION - NEW EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAM Goodwin House has made an upgrade to our Employee of the Quarter Program. We have been fortunate to receive sponsorship from a local nonprofit organization, The Ceca Foundation, (https:// cecafoundation.org/) which was founded in 2013 to celebrate caregiver excellence. Ceca Foundation s mission is to improve the patient experience by recognizing and rewarding outstanding health caregivers. The Ceca Caregiver Award Program will highlight staff by allowing their peers, residents, family members, and guests to nominate any GH staff member. Nominations can be made on paper, on the Ceca web portal, and/or Ceca mobile app. Anyone who receives a nomination will have their nomination and photo posted on a dedicated Ceca TV channel. Quarterly nominations will be reviewed by a panel made up of GHI staff, Ceca staff, and residents. The panel makes the final selection of the quarterly winner(s) who best exemplify qualities of empathy, humor, integrity, professionalism, and teamwork in caring for residents. A brief program overview and nomination forms will be available at a later date. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know. ~ Justin Carwile COMMUNITY CORNER Have you ever noticed or paid any attention to the three framed photos in the Bistro on the wall facing the beverages? These photos were taken by Barbara Morris on one of the many trips she, and her husband Ward, have taken across the globe. One of Barbara s favorite subjects for photographing is quaint, little shops in quaint villages. These shops, their windows and displays, were seen in Rouen, France. When the Morris s returned home, the large photos on the Bistro wall opposite the patio, reminded Barbara of her Rouen shop photos. Linda Lateana, former Executive Director of GHBC, agreed. Thus, after framing and cropping, the Bistro added the photos of a local artist to its ambience. For more local photo artistry, we need only turn the corner headed toward the Fitness Center and note the beautiful large photos of flowers done by Frank Barsalou, resident. And then there is the display of Knoll Garden photos on the Ground Floor on the wall facing the entrance to the Crossroads garage. Although many of the current photos on the wall were taken by Shirley Scalley and Ed Mott, all residents who have pictures taken in the Knoll Garden, are encourage to share them. As many of us are already aware, when touring the common areas of GHBC, the artistic members of our family have made major contributions to the attractiveness of our surroundings. Dottie Moser, Resident
