Lake Claire At UCF, there is always something to do. Students attend Division I athletics events, in addition to concerts and a wide range of cultural events. Personal development programs and activities in a broad range of educational, recreational and socialawareness topics offer students a chance to expand their understanding of the world. UCF s Spirit Splash is one of the most unique Homecoming events in the nation. Once a year, thousands of students gather in the Reflecting Pond at the center of campus for a pep rally and concert. UCF has state-of-the-art wireless classrooms, an 85,000-square foot recreational fitness center and a variety of on-campus residential communities. With the addition of new housing, a new alumni center, a full-service medical clinic and a 181,000-gallon outdoor recreational pool, the UCF campus is expanding opportunities for activities.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT UCF student-athletes are supported by a nine-person professional staff of advisors and counselors from the Office of Academic Services for Student- Athletes. The ASSA mission is to support student-athletes academic development, personal growth and career planning, while maintaining satisfactory progress toward their degrees. Twenty-two Knights earned the C-USA Commissioner s Academic Medal. The medals are given to student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. A school-record 378 student-athletes received UCF Athletics Director s Honor Roll recognition with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better during either semester of the 2006 calendar year. Of that number, 250 posted a 3.5 or better and 52 achieved a 4.0. ASSA advisors offer admissions counseling for incoming student-athletes, plan tutoring and organized study sessions, and coordinate priority class registration. UCF student-athletes also receive a special academic/athletic orientation, study skills and time management instruction, career planning advice, and job placement assistance. ASSA is part of UCF s SABRE Center (Student- Athletes Building Resources through Education), which provides comprehensive academic and life-skills programs to UCF s student-athletes. The center is also home to the Knights Computer Lab, the Knight Education Enhancement Program (KEEP), the Southeastern office of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. During the 2006-07 academic year, UCF had a league-high 190 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner s Honor Roll. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or better, to be named to the honor roll.
Towers at Knights Plaza TOWERS AT KNIGHTS PLAZA UCF student-athletes reside on campus at the recently completed Towers at Knights Plaza. The new apartments on the Northeast side of campus allow students to live within close proximity to UCF s athletics facilities. The apartments feature kitchens with dishwashers and single bedrooms with full-size beds. Each bedroom includes high-speed Internet access, cable television and local phone service. The Towers at Knights Plaza feature 100,000 square-feet of retail shops and restaurants. ATHLETICS FACILITIES UCF s Athletics facilities are among the best in Conference USA and the region. From Bright House Networks Stadium to the Wayne Densch Sports Complex, UCF student-athletes play and train in top-notch venues. The school s growing athletics complex is part of UCF s commitment to provide student-athletes with exceptional and modern facilities. In the summer of 2007, UCF completed construction of Bright House Networks Stadium and its new UCF Arena. The Knights football team calls the 45,000-seat stadium home and both UCF basketball squads and volleyball play in the 10,000-seat Arena. Other new facilities include the Nicholson Fieldhouse, the Wayne Densch Sports Center, Jay Bergman Field and the UCF Softball Complex. STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING/ SPORTS MEDICINE The strength and conditioning program is an integral component in UCF s 17-sport athletic family. The most visible sign of the Knights commitment in this area is the 11,200-square-foot weight room, which is located in the middle of the Wayne Densch Sports Center. The state-of-the-art facility contains the finest free weight and machine equipment, cardio equipment and treadmills. Six strength and conditioning coaches monitor the progress of UCF s student-athletes. UCF s sports medicine staff also works out of the Wayne Densch Sports Center. The sports medicine facility is equipped with the latest in aquatic technology, including a SwimEx pool, which is used for both treatment and rehabilitation, helping return student-athletes to competition quickly and safely. WELCOME TO ORLANDO Looking for theme parks, attractions, museums, worldclass shopping, outlet malls, great restaurants, lakes, golf courses, jogging trails, nature preserves and parks? It s all here in Orlando. Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World are minutes away from the UCF campus. The Kennedy Space Center, major film studios and sandy beaches are all nearby. Our campus is situated in the center of the Florida High Tech Corridor and is adjacent to one of the top research parks in the country. The Orlando International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the United States with almost 900 commercial operations a day. One of the area s biggest attractions is its year-round mild weather. At the heart of the Sunshine State, the region s average annual temperature is a comfortable 72.4 degrees.
Orlando Sporting Options The City of Orlando is home to a number of professional sports franchises, including the National Basketball Association s Orlando Magic and the Arena Football League s Orlando Predators. Disney s Wide World of Sports Complex hosts the Atlanta Braves for spring training each year and the Houston Astros train in nearby Kissimmee. Disney also hosts PGA events and the NFL s Tampa Bay Buccaneers annual pre-season practices. The Florida Citrus Bowl hosts a pair of college bowl games each winter and has also been the site of World Cup and Olympic soccer games. In 2006, the World Baseball Classic held part of its inaugural event in Orlando. In addition to UCF athletics events, the region also features the Daytona 500, several professional golf tournaments and action sports tours. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays played a regular-season series in Orlando in the summer of 2007.

This combination enhances men s and women s programs that are steeped in athletic success and academic prowess. Together, we are dedicated to excellence, integrity and leadership in athletics, academics and in our communities. All C-USA institutions sponsor Division I-A football, along with several other men s and women s athletic programs, many of which compete regularly for NCAA Championships. C-USA sponsors competition in 19 sports nine for men (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and indoor and outdoor track and field) and 10 for women (basketball, cross country, golf, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field and volleyball). C-USA institutions are among the nation s best in academic performance among student-athletes, bolstered by the fact that student-athletes at league schools have a higher graduation rate than the general student population. Among C-USA s 5,000 student-athletes, there are champions off the playing field as well. In 12 years, 105 student-athletes earned national ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors, while 338 were named All-District. In addition, more than 13,000 student-athletes have been named to the Commissioner s Honor Roll or received the Commissioner s Academic Medal, indicative of outstanding achievement in the classroom. members in nine states and a combined area population of nearly 17 million. More than 1.1 million living alumni represent C-USA schools across the nation. Along with the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC, Conference USA is one of the seven conferences having significant representation in the NCAA governance structure. Conference USA was formed in 1995 and quickly emerged as one of the nation s top conferences. The league s charter members included Charlotte, Cincinnati, DePaul, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, Saint Louis, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and USF. Eleven of the institutions began athletic participation in 1995, while Houston joined competition in the fall of 1996. The league s headquarters were established in Chicago and after nine years, relocated to the current office in Irving, Texas. Britton Banowsky was named Commissioner in October 2002, succeeding Mike Slive, the league s first commissioner. C-USA added East Carolina (September, 1996) and the United States Military Academy (March, 1997) as football members. ECU began league competition in 1997; Army in 1998 and UAB began football play in 1999. The league added TCU and ECU (1999) for all sports and they began competition in 2001. USF started C-USA football in 2003. After celebrating its 10th Anniversary during the 2004-05 season, C-USA began a new chapter in 2005-06 when its current membership came together to form the new look of the league.
