Harford County Council District A Happenings May 15, 2016 Volume 2, Issue 9 Giving a Little: Sapore di Mare When we issued the call for businesses which help the community we received outcry to highlight Sapore di Mare, a local Italian Restaurant located on Joppa Farm Road. Sapore di Mare opened in 2002 at the site of the old Joppatowne High s store and has become a favorite place for residents. I had the pleasure of speaking with Peppe Costa, the owner, a few days ago and he was humbled that the community had nominated him and his restaurant to be featured in the newsletter. As a small business he feels what he contributes is not enough, but knows it is the best he can do. The restaurant contributes to Joppatowne Recreation Council teams and helps out the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. For example, recently the restaurant helped with a Girl Scout service project. A local troop collected personal care items for the women in need. The support of Sapore di Mare allowed for nearly 150 purses to be filled to help these women. The restaurant contributes to local churches. One example is by providing pizza for annual Kids Night Out for Central Christian Bel Air church. The restaurant hosts fundraisers for the local schools to show their support. In the summer, Peppe places buckets out so patrons can contribute school supplies which the restaurant then donates to Riverside Elementary and Joppatowne Elementary schools. He supports other local small businesses by letting them post on the restaurant s Council Member Mike Perrone Jr. business card board. Contact Information People also praised the personal support Peppe and the restaurant give to people when they provide meals for those who have lost loved ones. Another person mentioned the catering staff takes over all the hard work so everyone, including the hosts, can enjoy events and not have to worry about the numerous small details. Having a local business such as Sapore di Mare is a blessing to the community and if more gave so little, everyone would be rich. ~Donna Blasdell Office Phone: 410-638-3521 Cell Phone: 443-752-2598 Email: DistrictA@HarfordCountyCouncil.com Come talk to me the Second Sunday of each month (except during July and August) at the Joppatowne Flea Market from 2 pm to 4 pm.
