Chapter s Current Activities 1. Professor Yongtian Wang, SPIE Fellow, gave us a report on the Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Technology. (10 March, 2010. BIT, China) 2. Chapter advisor Prof. Yuejin Zhao and chapter president Mr. Liquan Dong attended the National Conference on Opto Electronic Mechanical Technology. This conference was organized by the China Instrument and Control Society, Opto Electronic Mechanical Technology & System Integration Chapter. (6 8 April, 2010. Nanning, China) 3. Attended the Visiting Lecture about Optical Fiber Sensing Systems at Beijing Jiaotong University. Brian Culshaw, the 2007 President of SPIE, Professor of Optoelectronics University of Strathclyde gave the lecture. (29 April, 2010. Beijing, China) 4. We organized a student chapter meeting in our school, exchanges with OSA student chapter members and COS, CIS student members. Invited Professor Guoqiang Ni, the general secretary of The Chinese Optical Society to give us a report about the Optoelectronics Information Obtain. (10 May, 2010.BIT, China) 5. Chapter advisor Prof. Yuejin Zhao and chapter president Mr. Liquan Dong attended the 5 th Asia Pacific Conference on Transducers and Micro Nano Technology. This conference was organized by the RMIT University and the University of Western Australia. Mr. Liquan Dong reported his research paper on Development of Silicon Frame Infrared FPA Using bimaterial Microcantilever Arrays. (6 9 July, 2010. Perth, Australia) 6. We invited Professor Tongshu Lian, the famous expert on the Theory of 4

Conjugation for Reflecting Prisms to give us a lecture about the adjustment of the prisms in our school. (12 July, 2010.BIT, China) 7. The Secretary of our Chapter Mrs. Xuhong Chu attended the Conference of SPIE Optics + Photonics and Annual Meeting and the Student Chapter Leadership Workshop. And gave an oral report on her research about A novel bi material cantilever IR imaging optical system: from design to implementation in conference Detectors and Imaging Devices. (31 July 5 August, 2010. San Diego, California, USA) 8. Chapter advisor Prof. Yuejin Zhao, chapter president Mr. Liquan Dong and 12 student members of our chapter attended the Photonics Asia 2010 (PA 2010) and gave reports on their researches. Organized 16 chapter members as the volunteer serviced on the conference. And the doctoral student member of our chapter, Mr. Dewen Cheng winning the Optical Design and Engineering Scholarship, who is the first Chinese student to get this top Scholarship of SPIE. (18 20 October, 2010. Beijing, China) 9. Attended the Visiting Lecture about Sensing and measurement a different perspective on fibre optic systems at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication. Brian Culshaw, the 2007 President of SPIE, Professor of Optoelectronics University of Strathclyde gave the lecture. (21 October, 2010. Beijing, China) 10. We invited Ms. Julie Bentley, the associate professor of the Institute of Optics of University of Rochester, gave us a lecture about The Design Technology for Complicated Optical Systems. And invited Ms. Hong Hua, the associate professor of the college of optical science of the University 5

of Arizona, gave the lecture about The development of 3D display and image systems. (22 October, 2010. BIT, China) 11. Our Club organized 25 members and other 12 graduate students of the School of Optoelectronics BIT attended the 15th International Lasers Opto electronics and Photonics Exhibition (ILOPE). The exhibition was organized by COEMA and CIEC and supported by CCPIT and the Ministry of Information Industry. (27 29 October, 2010. Beijing, China) 12. We organized 15 members and other 6 graduate students of the School of Optoelectronics BIT attended the First China Instrumentation Congress, CIC, which was organized by the China Instrument and Control Society. And the Secretary of our Chapter Mrs. Xuhong Chu winning the Jin Guofan Youth student Scholarship. (10 November, 2010. Beijing, China) 13. Attend Capital Normal University Club academic conference and the Secretary of our chapter Mrs. Xuhong Chu gave lectures. (10 December, 2010. Beijing, China) 14. We invited Professor Francis T. S. Yu, SPIE Fellow, 2004 SPIE Dennis Gabor Award recipient, from Department of Electrical Engineering, Pennsylvania State University to give us a lecture on 7 January. The title of his lecture was Academic Excellence in the American Universities: Experience as a research professor in a U.S. University. (7 January, 2011. BIT, China) 15. New Chapter officer election holed on the end of the past semester. (21 January, 2011. BIT, China) 16. Keep contact with some famous companies and universities in the field 6

of Optics. 17. We organized the members to visit some optics labs which showed some more advanced optical setups. Future Activities 1. Let more students who major in Optics & Photonics know and join SPIE China Students Club. 2. Make our web site can be visited all over the world. Update Contents on time. 3. Attending Conference is a good way for new students to gain information; we will sport our members to attend the following SPIE organized or sponsored conference: ISPDI 2011 (24 26 May, Beijing, China), SPIE Optics + Photonics (21 25 August, San Diego, USA), OIT 2011 (6 9 November, Beijing, China) and so on. 4. We have invited Dr. Virendra N. Mahajan as the Visiting Lecturer to visit our university and give the lecture about Effect of Random Motion on Image Quality on 9 November 2011. 5. Attending new products exhibition about optics and related technology can help students to get the newest information; we will continue organization of such events in a future. 6. Continue to visiting local companies to encourage internship, locate jobs for club members, and get in touch with latest advances in industry developments. 7. Maintain close relations, interchange experience and plan common activities with other SPIE chapters around the world. 7
