Call for Applications to the Strategic Housing Finance Corporation Board of Directors & The Travis County Commissioners Court seeks residents interested in working creatively in public and affordable housing. The Court is currently seeking to fill vacancies on two boards, the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC) and the Strategic Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC). Because there is some overlap between the missions of the HATC and the SHFC, qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for either or both boards. Applicants should be interested in working with experienced board members to shape the future of key county assets. As the community grapples with housing needs, the Court seeks to build a team of appointees to work proactively on policy, staff development and innovative business processes that will strengthen the two entities to provide leadership in this important arena. County staff is engaged with the boards to assist in developing a roadmap that will assist new and current members in planning for action. Both boards meet on a regular basis, usually at least monthly with more frequent meetings called as necessary. Meetings can last as long as four hours. Housing Authority of Travis County Terms last for two years One unexpired two-year term set to expire December 31, 2015 The Housing Authority of Travis County, Texas (HATC) exists to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing for low income families in Travis County. The HATC currently operates and maintains 105 HUD public housing units and authorizes the issuance of over 568 housing choice vouchers. Strategic Housing Finance Corporation Terms are for six years Three unexpired terms with expiration dates of December 31, 2016; December 31, 2017; and December 31, 2019
The Strategic Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) serves the mission of the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC) by acting as its primary development corporation. The SHFC works with private developers and public entities to research and create opportunities to build new affordable housing. The Strategic Housing Finance Corporation issues bonds and utilizes Low Income Housing Tax Credits to finance its housing acquisitions and new developments. Qualifications The Travis County Commissioners Court is seeking qualified applicants who will participate actively in the work of the Boards and dedicate their time, talent and energy to the mission of the HATC and SHFC. In particular, the Court is looking for applicants familiar with one or more of the following: finance and accounting principles familiarity with federal and state housing funding sources knowledge of financing tools such as bonds, tax credits & incentives spreadsheet/ledgers development/construction property management experience working with diverse & special needs populations social services nonprofit organizations strategic planning, and affordable/public housing.
