LUKE CHAPTER MOAA Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting 6 March 2014, 1300

Transcription:

Insi de this i ssue: December 2010 Fourth Quarter Publication of Tampa Bay Chapter 58 Notes From The Chapter President Once again it has been a great pleasure to serve as Tampa Bay Chapter 58 president. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the board of directors and a special thanks to secretary, newsletter editor and website coordinator Juanita Anspach for the outstanding job she has done in all three jobs. At the TREA National convention in Tucson, Arizona, in September our chapter received five awards. Past President Hermon Sharpe received The Community Service Award. Director Harold Atwood a Certificate of Achievement, President Louis Arana with the 1st Runner Up Recruiter of the Year Award. And for the second consecutive year, our chapter earned the best website award and was runner up for the best newsletter Award. The five awards we earned made chapter history, something made possible because of the hard work and dedication of 1st Vice Leonard Black, chairman of the Award Committee. As of this writing, I do not know how many of our board of directors will be present at the Retiree Appreciation Day to be held at the base exchange Food Court at MacDill AFB on Nov. 13, 2010. I am sure that TREA, and Chapter 58 will be well represented on this memorable day. This year all members of the board have worked hard to increase the chapter membership. Lets keep in mind that as TREA and MACDILL DINING FACILITY FOR RETIREES News from Randolph AFB, TX: "New AF dining program opens doors for retirees"... "Thanks to the Air Force's Food Transformation Initiative, retirees at six bases will soon be able to use military food service establishments previously reserved for active-duty Airmen. n MacDili AFB is among the six Air Force bases participating in the initiative. Other participating bases: Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; Fairchild AFB, Washington; Little Rock AFB, Arkansas; Patrick AFB, Florida; and Travis AFB, California. Retirees will pay the same price as everyone else; there will not be a surcharge added to the menu price. As announced on the MacDill AFB Dining and Lodging Web page: "Beginning 1December, civilians with base access, their families and military retirees will be able to eat at the Diner's Reef Dining Facility." Louis Arana, President of TREA Tampa Bay Chapter 58. our chapter grows in membership, our voice in Washington, will be stronger in keeping our government aware of the promises made to us while we served our country. The nominating committee will present the 2011 slate of officer during the Dec, 18, 2010, meeting and the new elected officer will be sworn in. As always, we need volunteers to serve on the board of directors and nominations from the floor are welcome. I hope to see you at the general membership meeting and Christmas Party, which we will host at Tampa s Colonnade Restaurant on Bay Shore Blvd., on Dec. 18. UNITED WE STAND Louis A. Page 4 The Trooper Chapter 58 Volunteers Work at MacDill Retiree Day Event Members of TREA Tampa Bay Chapter 58 took part in the MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Retiree Appreciation Day on Nov. 13, 2010. Hosted by Col. Lenny Richoux, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander, the event helped provide military retirees with information about the benefits and services the base and various organizations makes available to them. The colonel said the event was a way to thank veterans for their unselfish service to their country and the MacDill military community. Twelve retiree organizations provided updates and information about benefits. Groups also had the chance to recruit new members. Many retirees don t know about all the benefits available to them, chapter president Louis Arana said. Even if we help make life better for just one person, then we d have done our job. Chapter members set up a booth at the base exchange food court. They include President Arana and his wife, Luz, a member of the women s auxiliary at large. Past President Hermon Sharp and his wife, Rieko, also a women s auxiliary at large member, 1st Vice President Leonard Black, Director Carlos Barradas and member Louis Arana Barradas. First Vice Black said these events are a great to get out of the house, meet new people, pass on key information and enjoy comradeship with fellow veterans. Past President Sharpe said the special day was also a great opportunity to exchange ideas and learn new things. The chapter donated $100 to MacDill s Friends and Military Families group, part of the base s Airman and Family Readiness Center. Group president Troy Johnson said the donation will go toward helping the MacDill community. The group aids active duty and retirees and their families with emergency financial assistance. President Arana said the chapter signed up one new member at the event and passed out 75 TREA information packages. Col. Lenny Richoux, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander, second from left, thanked Chapter 58 members, left to right, 1st Vice President Leonard Black, President Louis Arana and Director Carlos Barradas for their service to their country and the MacDill community during the MacDill Air Force Base Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 13.
