In addition, the City Manager is authorized to establish the funding sources and make any necessary budget transfers. BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION: The Northgate Transfer Center and Parking Garage project is in construction. The project is a major transportation hub for the Northeast Area of the City and is part of an overall transit oriented development located at the site of the demolished North Park Mall. A development agreement has been completed to construct a main street section leading further into the project site to enhance parking and access to the new transit Center, Garage and adjoining retail lease spaces. This change order is for a wayfinding element that is intended to be visible from Dyer as well as Diana streets and to provide a lead into the transit project and development. This project will complement the Sun City lights initiative in the northeast area. Project funding is through Sun Metro grant funds currently available to support cost of the addition of the Entry Archway. This authorization will allow us to keep the original completion schedule of the facility. The structural steel element is a long lead item and thus we need authority to be able to negotiate and order the material. SELECTION SUMMARY: N/A PROTEST No protest received for this requirement. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, on June 28, 2016, the City Council entered into Contract No. 2016-748 for the Northgate Transfer Center and Parking Garage with Dantex Construction, Co.; and WHEREAS, the City plans to increase the scope of work of the construction contract for the Northgate Transfer Center and Parking Garage ( Center ) to include an archway entrance to the Center; and WHEREAS, the construction work of the archway entrance to the Center is within the original purpose of the scope of work of the construction of the Center; and WHEREAS, the City desire to grant the City Engineer the authority to approve a change order in the amount not to exceed $270,000.00 which will be finalized once the design work is complete. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL PASO: That the City Council authorizes the City Engineer to approve a change in the amount not to exceed $270,000.00 for the increase of the cost of work for the construction of an archway entrance to the Northgate Transfer Center and Parking Garage, if the increased cost is justified and within the appropriate budget identified for the project.
