DESCRIPTION OF EFFORTS The Humane Society of New York (HSNY) provided extensive medical care at our hospital at no charge to animals affected by the hurricane. HSNY boarded animals of people left homeless by the storm until they could go back to their home again. HSNY traveled to affected areas (the projects in Coney Island, Breezy Point and the Rockaways which included visiting FEEMA sites and food pantries the day before Thanksgiving 2012) to help animals left behind, and also distribute food. When HSNY received an email requesting help from the Town of Hempstead NY Animal Shelter, we travelled there and took animals back to the HSNY hospital for care and adoption. HSNY served anyone in need of help from all of the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.
