FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS LA FONTAINE ACADEMY THE MOVE TO OUR PERMANENT SITE LAST UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2017 PLANS FOR PHASE A AND PHASE B ARE AVAILABLE AT WWW.LAFONTAINEACADEMY.ORG/BUILDING-A-VILLAGE As of the end of January 2018 the first phase of the permanent site for our school will be completed at The Widmore Centre, Nightingale Lane, Bromley, BR1 2SQ. The following are responses to some frequently asked questions about the move. 1. Will the Widmore Centre site be ready for the school to move into at the end of January 2018? a. As we ll still be within term time, we plan to physically move into The Widmore Centre during the February half-term week. b. To enable this to happen, we will need to have time to pack and subsequently unpack all our equipment. We are therefore proposing to have INSET days on 9 th and 19 th February. c. Our children will therefore join us at the Widmore Centre for the first time on Tuesday 20 th February. 2. Will there be any change to the start and end times of the school day? a. No. The bell is rung at 8.25am and then lining up outside at 3.30pm. b. Reception will continue to finish at 3.15pm. 3. Will La Fontaine s Wrap-Around care facilities still operate at The Widmore Centre? a. Yes, our Petit Déjeuner des Champions (Breakfast Club) will still operate between 7.30-8.25am. b. Yes, there will be a selection of clubs between 3.40-4.30pm and STEP Zone will still operate between 3.40-7.00pm. 4. How do we access the school at drop-off and pick-up times? a. Access will be via Liddon Road into a car park we will share with Bickley Primary School. b. Bickley s start and end times are different to La Fontaine s, so there will be minimal overlap.
5. Will La Fontaine families be able to access our new site via the pathway off Bishops Avenue? a. No. this is because of safeguarding reasons. 6. How will visitors access the school? a. Once the children have started school, the entrance gate at Liddon Road will be shut. Any access will therefore need to be via the main school entrance on Nightingale Lane. 7. Will the children be taught in proper classrooms? a. Yes. The rooms are appropriately sized and will be fitted with the necessary furniture and ICT equipment. 8. Will there be external playgrounds? a. Yes. 9. Will the children continue to have access to all the external facilities they currently enjoy at the current temporary site? a. Yes, but with the exception of the trim trail in the interim period. 10. Will the children still benefit from the family-dining approach? a. Yes. We will have a hall and our own kitchen where food will be cooked on site. 11. Will there continue to be construction works on site from February 2018 onwards? a. Due to the nature of the works required to make the Widmore Centre site fit for purpose, the works will be completed on a phased basis. Block A (the left hand side of the Widmore Centre as you look at it from Nightingale Lane) will be refurbished in time for end of January 2018. b. Block B (the right hand side of the Widmore Centre as you look at it from Nightingale Lane) will be refurbished in time for September 2019. 12. How will the children be segregated from the construction works, noise and dust? a. There will be safeguards and hoarding to separate the operating school from the construction and refurbishment works. Most of the works will be internal, so there will be limited noise and dust issues. b. The part demolition of Block A will be undertaken during the school holidays. 13. How are local residents being kept informed of the works to the Widmore Centre?
a. Our build contractor, Kier, has issued a letter (available on our website) to local residents, schools and businesses informing them of the approach to the works and the timescales we are working to. Kier will continue to keep our local stakeholders appraised of progress.
