Welcome to the Structural Engineers Association of California, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Student Chapter s 25th annual Structural Forum! This event is a unique combination of technical industry lectures and company expositions. Students and industry professionals are given the chance to interact in a personal and educational setting. We are thrilled to continue the long tradition of partnership that exists between Cal Poly and all of our industry partners. This year s theme, World Stabilization, calls attention to the importance of structural engineering on a global scale. Join me in bringing about a change in our profession, one that shows how dynamic and important engineers are around the world. We hope you find today s program informative and enjoyable. Welcome! Sincerely, OPENING ADDRESS Lyndsi Halvorson Lyndsi Halvorson Structural Forum Chair 2015 3

guest speaker i David Lambert PE ARUP David is a member of the structural engineering team in the Arup Los Angeles Office. Since joining the firm in 2008, he has been a part of multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from art installations, education facilities, performing arts centers, and museums on the local, national and international level. He is also an active member of a community within the firm advising and consulting on charitable development projects throughout the world. During his studies at Cal Poly, David developed an interest in appropriate building technologies in developing countries with seismic hazards. This interest evolved into numerous research projects, experiments and several volunteer service tours in rural East Africa where he has designed new buildings, rehabilitated existing structures and supervised construction for various charitable organizations. David s continuing specialization and experience in developing countries is highlighted by his involvement with The Mbesese Initiative for Sustainable Development, a non-profit organization taking a multidisciplinary approach to reduce poverty in rural East Africa. 6
guest speaker ii ALESANDRO BEGHINI PhD PE SE LEED SKIDMORE, OWINGS & MERRILL LLP Alessandro Beghini is currently a project engineer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, where he has been working since 2005.
