March 2014 Dear Graduate and Parent or Guardian: The following information is important for all participants in order to facilitate and provide for an orderly transition through graduation and related activities. NOTE TO PARENTS: IMPORTANT GRADUATION MEETING A senior parent meeting will be held to give parents information and to answer questions about graduation. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. It is very important that you attend! AWARDS CEREMONY Parents and students are cordially invited to attend our annual awards ceremony. All forms must be submitted by this deadline to ensure that the student will be able to participate in commencement activities. If you owe any SSL hours (even just 30 minutes), you will not take part in commencement, you will not graduate, you will not get your High School Diploma. This is a State of Maryland Requirement. Make sure whatever activity you are involved with is pre-approved at www.mcpsssl.org If you are still unsure or have any questions, see Mr. Dalton during lunch in Room 174 or email him at: Edward_R_Dalton@mcpsmd.org

SENIOR PROM Date: April 26, 2014, 8:00 p.m. 12:00 a.m. (must arrive by 9:30) Place: Attire: Cost: Photography: Behavior: Civic Building 1 Veterans Plaza Silver Spring, MD Formal $50.00 per person. Tickets will be on sale in the auditorium concession area during lunch 22-25 (only 4 days because of the holiday on Monday). Students need to be clear of all financial obligations to buy a ticket. A professional photographer will be on hand. Price lists will be distributed in school prior to the prom. Pictures are paid for at the Prom. All MCPS and Clarksburg High School rules and regulations apply. Students displaying disruptive behavior will not be allowed to remain at the function. Parents are requested to support and reinforce these guidelines. POST PROM BOWLING..BILLIARDS FOOD PRIZES ENTERTAINMENT!! EVERYTHING INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET PRICE! GRADUATION Date: Place: Rehearsal: Friday, June 6, 2014, 10:00 a.m. Mount St. Mary s University, Knott Arena at PNC Sports Complex 16300 Old Emmitsburg Road Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727 June 4, 2014, 8:30 a.m., Clarksburg High School Student speaker: Students interested in speaking at graduation should submit a written speech of about three to five minutes in length to Mrs. Moser by e-mail to Patricia_J_Moser@mcpsmd.org by 2:30 p.m. on April 22, 2014. Speech auditions for selected students are tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 2. A committee will make the selection and the selected student will be contacted. Rehearsal: You MUST attend graduation rehearsal on June 4 in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. The way you line up during practice at Clarksburg at 8:30 a.m. on June 4 is exactly the way you will be lined up at Mount St. Mary s on June 6. All seniors should report to the cafeteria on June 4 at 8:30 a.m. Clearance: All seniors must be cleared of all financial and other obligations to the school no later than 2:00 p.m. on May 23, 2014 in order to participate in the rehearsal on June 4 and the ceremony on June 6. Checks for obligations will be accepted until May 1. Cash or Money Orders must be used to pay for obligations after that date. Graduation Tickets: The Clarksburg High School graduation will be held at Mount St. Mary s at 10:00 a.m. Admission to Knott Arena will be by TICKET ONLY NO EXCEPTIONS!! Graduates will not need a ticket. Each graduate will receive six (6) tickets to graduation. Students will receive the tickets at graduation rehearsal. Every individual of every age will need a ticket to enter Knott Arena. Your cooperation in making alternative arrangements for babies and very young children would be greatly appreciated. Dress Code: Graduation is considered to be a formal, serious, and at the same time, joyous, occasion. The attire of participants should reflect this attitude. Women should wear dresses, skirts, or dress pants. Men should wear dress pants, a collared shirt and tie. Sneakers, sandals, shorts, jeans, cut-offs, T- shirts, and other inappropriate articles of clothing will not be allowed. Students must have a Clarksburg issued cap and gown to participate in the commencement exercises.

Note to parents: Knott Arena is air conditioned so guests can be comfortable for the ceremony while dressed appropriately in jackets, ties, and dress clothes. Please make guests to whom you have given tickets aware of proper dress for this occasion. Decorum: Mount St. Mary s personnel prohibits alcoholic beverages, fireworks, noisemakers, signs, balloons and any disruptive activity. Violators will be removed from the hall. Photography: Each graduate will be photographed when receiving the diploma. You will be sent a proof with cost information during the summer. The ceremony will be recorded and DVDs will be available for purchase. An order form is included in this packet. At Mount St. Mary s, parents need to be seated before the processional, as seating will stop on the main floor during the processional. Graduates are expected to be in the hall lining up at 9:00 a.m. SHARP at Mount St. Mary s. Graduates must be in the line up on time and stay there in order to participate. Graduates will enter through the doors at the front of the building (facing Route 15) and parents will enter through the doors in the back of the arena. Parents may enter the hall at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Seating: Your admission tickets are good for all seating other than that roped off for the graduates or other participants. Seating for handicapped individuals will be held until 9:45 a.m.; advise an usher of your need. Handicapped restroom facilities are also available. Requests for handicapped seating will be made at the parent graduation meeting on May 21. Language Interpretation: Spanish Language interpretation will be available at the graduation ceremony. Please e-mail Mrs. Rosado to request this service at Magdalena_Rosado@mcpsmd.org. Sign language interpretation is also available upon request. If you or one of your guests would like to request sign language interpretation, please contact Mrs. Moser at Patricia_J_Moser@mcpsmd.org. Exit from graduation: Immediately following graduation, students will flow directly into the field house to pick up their diplomas. They will then exit from the side doors. Parents and guests will need to remain seated while the graduates leave the auditorium and then guests will be able to exit through the main doors. Please make arrangements with your graduate to meet after the ceremony. Thank you for your attention to these important items.
