1. INTRODUCTION The present post-project exploitation plan aims to assure the sustainability of the CIVICO project and is one of the WP 5 deliverables. It foresees actions within the next 3 years after the project implementation. WP5 is led by the Bulgarian partner Paideia Foundation. All partners are involved in the post-project exploitation activities to ensure that project results are transferred to the target groups at national and local level. It is important to state that the implementation of the suggested post-project dissemination and exploitation activities in the present plan are the sole responsibility of the particular project partners themselves. Paideia Foundation 3

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST-PROJECT EXPLOITATION PLAN The most important factors to ensure the sustainability of the project results are: Finding an institutional home Building a network of stable relationships Integrating the results in national systems Success factors for sustainability Developing outcomes of high quality and transferability Finding new funding or commercialising the network Building a network of stable relationships A well established network of contacts and relationships is the best guarantee for sustainability. All partners will consider co-operation perspectives beyond the project duration using their rich database of relevant stakeholders that they have already produced and maintained during the lifetime of the project. Finding an institutional home The adoption and appropriation of project results by relevant institutions in the thematic sector is of key importance. The present project is of significant strategic relevance to all of the partner institutions. The project results will be embedded in the regular activities of the participating institutions P2 and P3 in the CIVICO Paideia Foundation 4

project are teacher training institutions and they are going to promote and use the Guide in their training courses. P5 is willing to make a lasting commitment to finance staff to continue the work in the field of civic education and update the results. There are institutions outside of the project consortium that are interested in taking over any elements from the project: schools (from the partner countries and from additional countries) will continue using the Guide in developing student competences and national authorities will consider possible ways to include lesson plans developed in the CIVICO project in the official national curriculums. Integrating the results into national systems Mainstreaming of project results into education systems is one of the best possible solution to guarantee that the project has a long-term impact and this is why they are recognized as key stakeholders in the CIVICO dissemination and exploitation strategies. Policy and decision-makers in the partner countries have also been and will be regularly addressed. Quality, transferability and ongoing relevancy It is important that the project products, activities, methods, and approaches can be easily adapted for use in other contexts and this is the case of the CIVICO project exploitation in partners and non-partners countries shows that the developed lesson plans are applicable and highly appreciated in new contexts. The project partners have developed replicable models that could be regularly reviewed and updated. Finding new funding or commercialisation It is important to consider how to gain extra funding in order to continue development or promotion: there are European or national funding opportunities for a follow-up project or network and each project partner could consider these (please, check the National Agencies of the Lifelong Learning Programme). In order to be successful these exploitation and sustainability issues have been pursued during the whole project duration. A possible minimum level of sustainability the CIVICO Project should be able to reach: There is still a contact person available for at least 3 years after the project duration in each partner institution The project results are integrated and systematically used in the partner institutions and disseminated in their local (national) environments The main project results continue to be distributed in their local (national) environments by all partners and can be easily obtained on request The project website is maintained and fully operational for three years after Paideia Foundation 5

the end of the funding period. Through the website potential users can access the project results and ask for support from the project partnership when using them. Paideia Foundation 6

3. TARGET GROUPS Target groups that can potentially benefit from the project results are already identified in the beginning of the project. CIVICO has the following main target groups (both internal and external to the partner organizations): A. Teachers Teachers are direct users of the project results (see Chapter 4). These are especially professionals working with students aged 14 and above. B. Other stakeholders: schools teachers training organizations school head teachers teachers associations researchers and professors authorities (state and local administration, policy-makers) civic activists NGO s The secondary target group includes organizations that can lead indirectly to long term beneficiaries of the project. The target groups comprise organizations and individuals linked to the aspects of civic education. CIVICO partners have already identified concrete organizations and individuals in their countries belonging to both the primary and the secondary target groups. On the basis of this research, a DATABASE has been elaborated containing the contacts of the relevant organizations and individuals. Furthermore, partners have identified key organizations and networks at European level through which project results can be transferred. The list of key stakeholders allows partners to transfer project results more easily and carry out more focused exploitation activities. This will also increase the probability that the project results are applied by the target group beyond the project. Paideia Foundation 7

4. PROJECT RESULTS The exploitable project results after the lifetime of the project are as follows: Guide on developing civic competence is addressed to European teachers and based on active didactics containing 42 lesson plans; Project web site and HelpDesk; Teachers' workshops content and feedback on the Guide for developing civic competences; Outcomes of the final national conferences. 5. ENSURING THE VALORISATION OF PROJECT RESULTS The Guide will be a useful tool for teachers to support their students by the constitution of Key competence 6. Because of the fact that the Guide is based on active didactics it is expected to increase students' motivation. The elaborated training content is tested through pilot training and workshops. Thus, partners and stakeholders from the partner countries have already provided their opinions and references. The results of the project will also be presented and discussed among congresses at European and/or National level. The constant evaluation of the project and its outcomes throughout the project lifetime will in this ways provide feedback to partners on whether the project outcomes are in accordance with the identified target group s and project beneficiaries interest. Paideia Foundation 8

6. MAIN INSTRUMENTS OF POST-PROJECT DISSEMINATION AND EXPLOITATION Exploitation starts immediately after the completion of the second version of the Guide. The main instruments to transfer project results to the identified target groups (A. Teachers; B. Other stakeholders) will be: o Post-project exploitation plan o Copyright agreement (CA) the agreement is carried out from the leader of WP5 with the collaboration of all project partners and is signed from all of them. Therewith the partners agree on the exploitation of the project materials. o The Guide on developing civic competence in students in 10 European languages will be available for downloading for free on the projects web site. o Promotion of the Guide in schools - Each main partner will find interested schools and support the use of the Guide. If you have schools showing interest in the Guide thanks to your dissemination campaign in your own country then these are your best choice as additional partners. If not, the next step would be to contact schools you already know or use contacts you alreday have in order to gain partners. o Multilingual leaflet - all partners who have copies of the leaflet left on their disposal are able to disseminate it on each suitable occasion. The leaflet itself refers to the project web site that will be available after the project duration. o Project website - will be available 3 years after the project completion. It has 10 European language versions. o Press campaigns the 5 th and last for the project press campaign will link target groups to the project results available after the implementation of the teachers workshops held in November 2012 and the national conferences in December 2012. Each partner is going to write a press release regarding the national conference in its own country and publish news about it after its implementation. o Mailing lists list of stakeholders at national and international level that are being used for the needs of the press campaigns. o Helpdesk for the needs of those using the Guide. It has the form of a FAQ database and an e-mail form in addition. o The two teacher training institutions VIA and SWSPZ are going to use the Guide in their teacher training programs. 60 more teachers will be associated each year. Paideia Foundation 9
