INTRODUCTION Indonesia is archipelago country with population: 240 million; 80% in Java Madura Bali Average Electrification ratio ~70% Many regions in Indonesia do not have sufficient supply of electricity, especially in remote areas. The need of electricity increase significantly Government revise the national energy mix policy for 2025 by increasing New and Renewable Energy share. Both of big and small power electricity generation are needed for java grid and other small grids respectively. Nuclear is considered as New Energy group. 2

Energy and Electricity Situation In Indonesia 15 % 67 % 11 % 4 % 3 % 3

2010 NEW NATIONAL ENERGY MIX POLICY: Toward New and Renewable Energy Renewable energy <5% New & Renewable energy ~17%. Nuclear 2% possible for large NPP in JMB or SMRs for remote areas/small grid supply

NUCLEAR ACTIVITIES IN INDONESIA: Strengthening nuclear safety infrastructure (as: HRD, regulatory system, FS, Tech. Ass., etc.) FS on NPP siting for Bangka Belitung island FINISH this year. Continue technology assessment for SMR Continue activities for Nuclear Energy System Assessment (NESA). Status: document submitted to IAEA to be evaluated. BATAN initiate to build and operate the Non Commercial NPP with low power. Status: in waiting budget support from National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) for 2015. Indonesia has ratified NPT, Nuclear Safety Convention, the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, etc. 5

THE RECENT EVENTS ON NUCLEAR ACTIVITIES IN INDONESIA BATAN request budget to government to build and operate Non commercial NPP starting on 2015. The Director of Electricity State Company (PT. CONCLUSION BATAN initiate to build the non commercial NPP low power. BAPETEN continue strengthen the Safety Regulation. (1 President decree. 1 Government regulation and 9 Bapeten Chairman regulations submitted in 2013.) It is recognized that safety infrastructure is importance for nuclear embarking country, therefore Indonesia fully supports ANSN program through participating and hosting the ANSN events in the framework of capacity building. ISE is the only one instrument used by TG to do self assessment and evaluate the targets achievement of TG. Recognizing the importance of ISE, Indonesia encourage all TG to conduct ISE. 21

Thank you for your kind attention! 22
