He was commissioned from Sandhurst and later served as a high threat bomb disposal operator with a number of military counter terrorism units including four years with the UK Special Forces as an Assault IEDD operator. During his career he deployed to a number of operational theatres, including The Balkans, Northern Ireland, Colombia, Afghanistan and Iraq. For his actions during his Iraq tour, he was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal. He rounded off his military career as an intelligence officer, and at the time of the London suicide bombings, he was seconded to COBRA (the Cabinet Office's emergency response committee) as a countersuicide bomber subject matter specialist. Since retiring from the army, Chris has worked as a counterterrorism consultant and trainer specializing in operations in hostile environments, and is also a bestselling author. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Explosives Engineers, a Member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators and a regular contributor to television and radio news and current affairs programmes... Assault IED Defeat is a specialised skillsset enabling suitably selected operator to rapidly assess and neutralise IED s during landbased, aviation and maritime interdiction operations. Assault IEDD differs from generic IEDD in that the overriding aim of the operator is to maintain the momentum of the assault force in a hostile (highthreat) environment by facilitating the assault force reaching their objective safely, rapidly and with minimum risk of compromise.
