We are the leading clinic in the UK who offer High Dependency services within our intensive treatment programme for the most complex or chronic cases. Set in beautiful grounds with first class clinical professionals and excellent facilities our focus is on helping our patients manage their disorder and live their life without the disorder controlling them. Family involvement and group support are key in the recovery treatment process and our friendly professionals will work closely with you to tailor a programme to each individuals needs. On site we have an Ofsted registered school who provide tuition up to to A level. As well as a varied and stimulating education syllabus, we and the school offer half term activities including excursions to local attractions. Aged 8-18 years Diagnosis of an Eating Disorder with/ without co-morbidities Eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS) Pervasive Withdrawal Syndrome / PRS Informal or Detained under MHA 1983 For further information we can advise over the phone and will happily assist you in the admissions process through the NHS system or privately. Our philosophy is to engage with and treat our young people with a holistic approach to facilitate their physical, mental and emotional recovery.

Treatment Approach Our treatment programmes focus on medical and psychiatric stabilisation with weight management and restoration, supported by an intensive therapeutic programme which includes working extensively with families. All patients have their own meal plans prepared by our specialist dietician. Home leave is incorporated into the programme to allow the practice of skills attained prior to discharge to restore the patient to normal living as quickly as possible. The Intensive treatment Programme provides inpatient treatment for patients with highly complex, challenging or chronic conditions. Including those who are intensely resistant to treatment, severely medically compromised, history of serious self harm or those who present with challenging behaviour. The Recovery Focused eating disorder programme provides physical and psychiatric re- stabilisation sufficient to allow discharge to local CAMH services. For young people who are lower risk, Ellern Mede Ridgeway are able to offer short term stabilisation as required. This programme is focused on recovery and discharge and works on equipping your child with the tools they need to manage their eating disorder in their home environment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Care Pathway Discharge Planning After a carefully planned extended home leave transistion programme, incorporating regular visits to Ellern Mede for a few hours at a time the young person is discharged with support of the family and community. Post discharge Ellern Mede Ridgeway offers various post discharge support options tailored to the individual needs of the patient and family. Admission to Ellern Mede Assessed by psychologist, personalised programme of therapy including family therapy and CRT helped the young person regain control and work with therapists to manage their eating disorder. The young person was able to see improvements, which encouraged the young person to cooperate with our team regaining weight. Patient Young person 14 years old diagnosed with an eating disorder. History Treated as an outpatient on various other programmes for the last 3 years. Challenges faced Crisis situation, serious breakdown in communication with family, severely medically compromised, risk to self or others or risk of absconsion.

Philosophy of Care Our team understand that it is the eating disorder that is difficult and challenging, not the patient. Our goal is to help the patient to develop trust in the team and use us as a resource to gain the strength, esteem and confidence to challenge the illness and move towards recovery. To this aim we provide a friendly and containing environment. Our philosophy embraces the individual as part of a larger family structure. Therapy Our weekly timetable includes a range of individual and group therapies offered by our clinical team. Each therapeutic approach is tailored to suit the needs of the young person and is adjusted to suit their stage of recovery. Some of the therapies we are offer are: Psychoeducation, Family-based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) and Integrative Therapy. We also offer a Parent Support Group an opportunity for parents to share experiences and strategies for improving communication and domestic conditions for return home.

Facilities We provide a safe and supportive environment and our approach respects patients individuality, whilst also recognising the need to work closely and supportively with their families to promote and sustain recovery post-discharge and to minimise any disruption to home and social life. Explores culinary differences across global communities. Therapy Kitchen and Dining Patients can plan, prepare, serve and eat with their families in our therapy kitchen including a trip to local supermarket. This helps to develop social and practical skills in preparation for discharge. Social Eating Eating out in a local restaurant or café as part of a programme of gradual exposure to provide support with social eating experiences. We encourage our young people to identify local restaurants and cafés.

We have groups that focus on exploring and challenging connections between low self- esteem and body image to facilitate a more realistic perspective as well as behavioural communication and social skills. Mindfulness To recognise the patterns of thoughts and once this has been recognised, learning to respond in new ways to those thoughts. Over-exercise Group Understanding how exercise within normal parameters is positive and helping to restore more normalised behaviour patterns with respect to exercise. Community Meetings Patient-led group discussion reflecting on day to day issues. This forum offers each young person the opportunity to influence the development agenda and activities in the centre. Future Focus Improving self-awareness and raising insight to help encourage more realistic expectations of oneself and planning ahead.
