SECTION #1 SAVE ENERGY EARN REWARDS

PROJECT SUMMARY The Student Energy Project (TSEP) is a new initiative by amber energy and ask4 designed to lower energy consumption in student accommodation. The project educates and inspires the student generation to lead a more sustainable life and to develop the right habits to take with them after leaving their accommodation. TSEP takes its inspiration from the typical student who wants to know what s in it for me?! when asked to lower their energy consumption. TSEP delivers on this question for the student, the building owner, and its stakeholders* Students receive reward points for every unit (kwh) of energy they don t use and can trade these reward points in using their own online portal. Building owners achieve greater control over their energy costs, greater visibility on where and how energy is being used reduced energy usage, and an improved relationship with their tenants. Stakeholders view the building and its owners as cutting edge, more profitable and greener. Sponsors increase student exposure and enhance their brand. Who are The Student Energy Project? TSEP delivers on this question for the student, the building owner, and its stakeholders* KEY NUMBERS & FEATURES We ve reinvested in to TSEP since we started to create an affordable, scalable product with some key features. You can now get more students involved in your project and sponsor opportunites to enhance your brand are also available. WHY DOES TSEP EXIST? SOME BASIC FACTS ABOUT US Students using excess levels of energy. High energy bills for the building owners. Buildings lacking a sense of community. Difficulty in communicating to the student population. Fair usage policies difficult to enforce. Language and demographic barriers. Making energy and sustainability issues interesting to students is difficult. Previous attempts with green schemes struggled to get buy- in. It s difficult to measure the success of energy reduction schemes. We need to do something for the environment to prevent further global warming issues. We need to reduce our carbon emissions. TSEP s officially launched in 2013. TSEP s mission is to provide students with a single access point for getting involved in energy, to reduce energy consumption in the student population and to support the UK in achieving it s carbon reduction targets by 2050. TSEP is designed around the typical student who wants to know what s in it for me when asked to lower their energy consumption. TSEP isn t about being green for the student- this is a positive knock-on effect of the project. However, press and media articles about the building owners may focus on being green when talking about the results of the project. TSEP is built on directly rewarding low energy consumption in student accommodation. TSEP provides an end-to-end solution for building owners looking to reduce their energy consumption without deploying their own rigorous control, administration, and individual billing mechanisms (the current alternative ). TSEP continually monitors energy consumption of building occupants (students) and engages these users with their consumption in a number of ways; a web portal and on-site energy managers. TSEP guides building users (students) on how to earn more rewards and how to avoid penalty charges for their energy consumption. TSEP offers control to building owners and a direct way to engage with its occupants.

T 02920 007 629 W studentenergyproject.com THE TYPICAL STUDENT TSEP define today s typical student as follows: Not green but understanding of a relationship between energy usage and the environment. Keen to fit in with peers and easily influenced by peer groups. Keen to participate in anything that is free, fun and/or makes uni-life more comfortable. Brand lovers who save for particular kit, clothing and food. Sociable sharers who are online with social networking and media. Looking to develop skills for post-uni life. Looking to build upon their CV and gain experiences for future employment. Intelligent earners preference to utilise online earning and earn from their room activities.

THE 6 STEPS OF TSEP STEP #1 Agree savings % for student rewards and base rate of kwh STEP #2 Hire TSEP Reps and train them WHAT S IN IT FOR ME? The Student Energy Project (TSEP) was developed to answer this question. It offers 2 ways to get involved. Firstly, TSEP on site provides rewards to students for reducing their energy consumption in subscribing sites. Where a site has subscribed to TSEP to incentivise its students to use less energy. Secondly, TSEP is the first free to sign up, single resource centre for students and energy; a hub for learning about issues surrounding the environment, developing knowledge and expertise in this area as well as having the opportunity to start a career in the energy industry. STEP #3 Launch the project. STEP #4 Project goes live. Students reduce their energy consumption STEP #5 Updates with site to review the project STEP #6 End of project. Final update to review savings and rewards issued 2

THE POINTS SYSTEM CHOOSE YOUR PORTIONS OF SAVINGS FOR STUDENTS 30% 50% 100% ADVISED USAGE Students will see on the website how much energy they are advised to use every day and how much they are actually using. For every kwh that they save below this advised amount they will earn a certain number of points WORKING WITH TSEP THE POINTS 1 = 1000 PTS TSEP on site offers the students a direct opportunity to become an energy rep. They will receive part time work experience to support their CV and additional rewards and benefits. Their role is to get students involved. They act as a corresponder and facilitator between the site owner and the project managers at TSEP and TSEP students. FOR EXAMPLE 30% of 1 kwh = 30 PTS

STUDENT REPS HOW IT WORKS #1 1 STUDENT REP PER SITE REGISTER ON OUR WEBSITE #2 Encourage students to reduce energy Inform students of rewards available to them Get students involved in energy. REDUCE ENERGY USAGE WHAT THEY WILL GET #3 TSEP Hoody Full Training Certificate of Training Additional Rewards Extra Incentives CV Experience TSEP REP RECRUITMENT TSEP Reps will be recruited as soon as students arrive at the accommodation. The role will be advertised via posters and leaflets displayed at the accommodation, social media posts and an email direct to the students. Please let the TSEP team know if you have any ideas to further advertise the role to the students! CLAIM YOUR REWARD

HOW IT WORKS HOW IT WORKS REWARDS: NATIONAL BRANDS For TSEP on site clients Amber Energy assess the current usage at the site to agree on a baseline with the building owner. An individual baseline is then designed and designated to each room / room type. On sign up students elect their room. TESCO, TOPSHOP, TOPMAN, AMAZON, ITUNES, JOHN LEWIS, SPORTS DIRECT, DEBENHAMS, NEW LOOK, MISS SELFRIDE, M&S, STARBUCKS, MANKIND, BELLA ITALIA, PIZZA EXPRESS, ZIZZI, CAFE ROUGE, BURTON, OUTFIT, PLUS MANY MORE!! It s easy to log-in and the student will remain logged into the system on their devices for ease of use. The system will record their actual usage using the metering data and compare this against the target use. Achieving lower usage than the target will allow reward points to be earned. Once you have logged in you can see how many points you ve saved, you can view your energy use, and you can look at tips, rewards, competitions that are running, or you can become a rep. REWARDS: LOCAL COMPANIES THERE WILL BE A RANGE OF LOCAL BUSINESSES OFFERING REWARDS TO THE STUDENTS. THIS WILL PROMISE INCREASED BUSINESS FOR THE LOCAL COMPANIES AND ENCOUARGE STUDENTS TO SPEND THEIR POINTS IN THE LOCAL AREA.

Even where this isn t enforceable as a charge the letter alone can have an impact on behavior or switch the user on to the concept of achieving rewards for lowering their consumption instead. The Energy Team are there to support users in earning as many reward points as they can. THE TSEP TEAM WILL VERIFY THE POINTS, INVOICE THE BUILDING OWNER AND DISPATCH THE REWARD DIRECTLY TO THE STUDENTS Exclusive Competitions are held for TSEP on site customers to incentivise their students to get involved with the project, to enhance the brand of the site owner, and to reinforce the relationship between getting involved and/or reducing energy consumption and being rewarded.
