Summer Volume Air Force Association Meet our CSAF Scholarship Winners!..AND OUR SPONSORS.. Jason Canavan impressed us with his 5.0 GPA and a PERFECT score of 800 on his Math SAT. He was awarded the Abbie Boyd Memorial Scholarship, which is a four year scholarship to attend his high school, Phillips Academy. He has traveled to Ireland with his Chamber Orchestra as a French horn player. He also is a National Merit Commended Scholar. He stays active with his Chapter President Paul Zauner and Maj General Ken Merchant Present Jason Canavan the Paul Revere AFA CSAF Scholarship school s Economics Society, Political Union & Republic Society. Not to mention he is an outstanding Soccer player. Mr. Canavan graced the Hanscom Spouses Club with many volunteer hours over the past five years. He also shares his time volunteering through his Catholic Student Fellowship, tutoring French and working with disabled members in his community. He gets his success the old -fashioned way, he EARNS it. And he is well on his way. Jason will be attending Boston College, majoring in both Finance and Mathematics. The Paul Revere Chapter is proud to give this earnest, bright, insightful, hardworking young man our most prestigious scholarship the Chief of Staff Scholarship amount of $4,000. What are we up to? Summer Volume CSAF Scholarship Dinner May 21 @ The International Alexander Knoedler s teacher shares with us that this student ranks #1 in his 36-year teaching career. Alexander purposely and effectively examines his strengths and weaknesses, implementing a plan to improve. His efforts resulted in an enviable perfect 800 SAT score in Math. He was also a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Oddfellows United Nations Ambassador and National Forensic League Academic All American. All the while, this young man received his Eagle Scout with both a Bronze and Gold Palm, Varsity letter for cross county as well as track and field, and even stayed active on the Speech & Debate Team, with his Church Youth Group, and as a member of the National Honor Society and JROTC. Mr. Knoedler wants to explore, to push the envelope as far as it can go. He wants to be an astronaut but more than a fleeting image; rather, a person that many can connect with so that he can share his passions with countless others. MIT is lucky to have this fine young man amongst their ranks studying Aero/Astronautical Engineering and commissioning into our great Air Force. Since our scholar was finishing up school in Colorado, we are proud to have awarded the Colonel Chuck Jones Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 to a family friend, Mrs. Barb Hiltz. Congratulations! As she transitioned from a challenging freshman year in another state, this young lady took the bull by the horns and excelled greatly in all her advanced placement and honor classes at her all-girl Catholic High School. As a member of the National Honor Society, boasting a 2090 SAT total, a stellar athlete lettering in cross country, track and soccer, there s no slowing down Ellen Roussel. Giving back as a volunteer tutor for younger students are among her list of extracurricular activities. She also volunteers at Lahey Clinic, Emerson Umbrella, Gaining Ground, and Friends for Tomorrow Horse farm. She exemplifies the true example of giving back to her community. Last summer she traveled to the University of Dallas to participate in a program called Arete, where she tapped into the great texts of the past to enable an examination of how one lived and approached life. Ellen tells us, Now, I know it is up to me to make my presence known and we have no doubts that she will live up to her own expectations for herself. Ms. Roussel attended Ursuline Academy in Dedham, an independent college preparatory school for girls. Planning to attend Loyola University in Baltimore, MD, majoring in Biology with a minor in English, it is our pleasure to award Ellen the Brian D. Sweeney Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $3,000. Congratulations! Thank you to our loyal sponsors!

Air Force Association Louis A. Emond Memorial Scholarships TSgt Jaclyn N. Duclos is an outstanding NCO who is currently attending Florida State University for her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. She is in her last semester of the 3-year, 61 credit program while maintaining a 3.92 GPA. This semester she is taking a 12-credit internship along with a 3-credit senior seminar to complete her degree. After finishing her MSW, TSgt Duclos is considering continuing her education by pursuing an MBA. Her dream is to continue her military career as a social worker in the Air Force. TSgt Duclos has found a passion in serving her country as well as helping others that she is serving alongside. She has been using her Air Force Tuition Assistance benefits to complete her Bachelors degree and now Masters degree, but Tuition Assistance does not cover the internship required. She is extremely deserving of this award due to the steadfast determination she has shown in achieving her educational goals while excelling in her primary duties as an Airman over the last 7 years. The scholarship will enable her to continue giving back to the Air Force and her fellow Airmen. SrA Francisco G. Trejo is far and away the unit s most committed junior enlisted member in terms of formal education and he is well-deserving of consideration for this great scholarship. He earned his CCAF Degree in Criminal Justice in 2010 and is three classes away from his Associates Degree in Engineering, maintaining a remarkable 4.0 GPA at Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Mass. If that were not impressive enough, SrA Trejo has completed all these classes during the day, in spite of working 14-plus hour midnight shifts as a Desk Sergeant with the base police. After he completes his Associates Degree, he plans to transfer to UMass Lowell and pursue a Bachelor s Degree in Electrical, Plastics or Bio-medical Engineering. SrA Trejo always rises to the top, as evidenced by his 2013 Team Hanscom Airman of the 2nd Quarter Award and his recent capture of the John L. Levitow Award at Airman Leadership School, which is presented to the student that demonstrates the most outstanding leadership and scholastic qualities. Thank you to our loyal sponsors!

Air Force Association MEMBERSHIP REPORT! - Jenny Hopewell, VP of Membership Having grown up in California, I can honestly say that I never fully understood the meaning behind the term spring fever until I moved to New England in 2000. But now I get it, and as summer drew near New England families began the annual tradition of packing every possible waking moment of summer with memory-making activities. And so has the Paul Revere chapter! The summer months have been jam-packed with several much-beloved annual events that give back to our veterans, as well as our enlisted and their families, and local youth through ROTC and STEM program support. The Paul Revere chapter loves to re-invest the monies raised throughout the year back into our community in ways that uphold the AFA pledge to EDUCATE ADVOCATE SUP- PORT. But membership numbers have declined in recent months as some renewals have been delayed. Is your membership current? Here s an easy way to tell. Are you receiving the Air Force magazine? SUMMER LUNCH AND LEARN! If you answered yes congratulations, your membership is current! You now qualify for the opportunity to volunteer in service alongside other AFA members in local events. Of course, volunteering is not a requirement but it sure is fun! Come on you know you want to! If you answered no please call or email me so we can either update your contact info, or renew your membership!
