This workshop covers timely topics that are crucially needed in implementing and advancing PRA and Risk Management (RM) for a vast variety of industries. The recent disaster at the Japanese Fukushima Power Plant is a bitter reminder of the vital importance of comprehensive PRA in nuclear industry. The catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is another example that highlights the need for expanding PRA in other industries. The specific topics covered in the workshop include (a) Notion of risk and risk management in socio-technical systems, (b) Probabilistic Risk Assessment (tools and techniques), (c) Performance Assessment for Risk Analysis (hardware reliability, human reliability, software reliability, safety culture and external physical environmental causes of risk), (d) Uncertainty Analysis, (e) Risk Ranking, (f) Risk Acceptance Criteria, (g) Riskinformed Decision Making and (h) Risk Communication. Instructors: Dr. Zahra Mohaghegh Center for Risk and Reliability University of Maryland Dr. Reza Kazemi Center for Risk and Reliability University of Maryland Certificate of Attendance will be issued to participants by the Center for Risk and Reliability at the University of Maryland.
