A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER Dear future students, Education is the most valuable thing in modern world. Education or investment in personal development is the value that provides us with joy and satisfaction in our lives. Contemporary nursing is based on historical values of nursing practice and cannot be imagined without proper education. Education harmonization at world level (Bologna declaration), represents the essence for contemporary nursing development and healthcare. Today, nurses can enroll in higher schools -vocational and academic studies, specialist academic studies, master or doctoral studies. They can even get PHD degree or a subspecialty. High medical college of professional studies Milutin Milankovic is one of the institutions that was the first to recognize the importance of nursing education, as the essence for contemporary nursing development and healthcare. FOUNDING AND ACCREDITATION School started in 2005 as the first private Higher medical college. Two years later in 2007, the Institution is developed in High medical college of professional studies and it was the first private educational institution which provided education of students within the area of healthcare in Serbia. The Institution was accredited in regular accreditation cycles, and the latest accreditation is issued by the Commission for Accreditation and Quality control and the Ministry of Education in 2012 (No. 612-00-03250/2016-06, from 07.07.2017.) The College has its own basic goals in line with the college strategy and the Law on high education. Basic goals which justify the college founding are: to obtain high education and lifelong learning under the same conditions; to develop, update and transfer scientific and professional knowledge; to implement professional programs with constant curriculum innovation; to support alumni with constant knowledge innovation. The College periodically tests its own goals which should be in line with school financial situation. Transparent longterm goals are: continuing work in obtaining and constant improvement of high education quality; the increase of courses efficiency; the improvement of school curriculum, lectures and work conditions; continuing professional development of teaching staff; the increase of support to academic world and local and national community; the implementation of a system that will ensure high quality of teaching and total education outcome; development support to professional programs that provide skills and abilities of adjustment to the labour market; active participation of students in development process of high education; cooperation with other high schools in our country and abroad; promotiion of mobility of students, teaching staff and assosiates; the development of lifelong learning strategy; the increase of efficiency in organization and school management; development of quality control methods and self-assessment; the increase of customer users; optimal resource management; renewal 2

of teaching staff with younger members; constant improvement of employees knowledge as well as the increase of volume and type of service. ACCREDITED PROGRAMS In the latest accreditation cycle, The College accredited three courses. At the basic academic studies, we have programs that last three years: PROFESSIONAL NURSE-TECHNICIAN PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST-PHYSIOTHERAPIST PROFESSIONAL RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN At the specialist academic studies, we have one course that lasts one year: PROFESSIONAL NURSE - TECHNICIAN/INTENSIVE CARE SPECIALIST Education is in accordance with Bologna process consisting of attending lectures and practices, consulations, preparations for lectures, seminar papers, internships and final thesis. Internship is realised during the entire studing process. During the clinical internship, student is presented with the practice at certain levels of healthcare; student should keep a diary of daily professional activities and should acquire practical professional skills. 3

BASIC ACADEMIC STUDIES PROFESSIONAL RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN The basic academic studies last 3 years, that is 6 semesters and in total 180 ESPB. After graduation, Professional radiology technician is capable to apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge separately or in team; to conduct radiography of body systems or parts of the body using contrasts or without them; to use X-ray machine, CT scan, MRI and mammogram; to assist in ultra sound and colour doppler diagnostics. SPECIALIST STUDY PROGRAMME PROFESSIONAL NURSE-TECHNICIAN/INTENSIVE CARE SPECIALIST The studying program for nurses intensive care specialists, who treat patients in critical conditions within the emergency care units and wards, has a clearly defined purpose and role within the public health and addresses the increasing needs for health care of the most critical patients; also, it represents a response to the requirements for highly educated nursing staff familiar with the organization, urgent care management in hospitals, clinics, specialized geriatric centers, social protection institutions, etc. 11
